I know this has been a thread before, but I can't find it now!! How long after post-op did y'all wait til you started drinking alcohol again? I'm a month and a half out, I just would like to gauge how much longer I should wait!

There is a high rate of developing substance abuse after rny if you partake in alcohol. Plus high in calories and in my opinion just not worth it.

I drank about 2 1/2 months out no harm! Do get drinker easier so just take it easy. I am not addicted just drink on occasion my anniversary birthday and some concerts. I had my surgery in July. Yes high in calorie! Will gain a pound or two but I got back on the liquid diet for a day or two after fri king and I'm right back on track! But if u are depressed or have an addictive personality I wouldn't recommend it. Good luck to you!! Be safe with everything you put in but also don't deprive yourself it will drive you crazy!

I had a glass of wine about 2 1/2 months out, the alcohol had no more effect on me post op than pre op. You just have to be very careful... alcohol is empty calories. If I have a glass of wine.. I exercise about 1/2 longer to burn it off the next day.

I am 3 months post op and drink socially. Orange juice with pineapple juice and vodka gave me cramps but my Dr said it was probably the sugar. Also he said its okay after 3 months to have alcohol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
