Is anyone failing at exercising? I can resist all the food in the world and completely not eat if I had too, but I can not find the energy to exercise.... :(

I want to want to exercise. I hope some exercise fairy comes down and konks me on the head in a couple of weeks and I get that exercise motivation. I really want to do Water aerobics but I need the kick in the pants to do it. the words JUST DO IT have a whole new meaning doesn't it?

I'm struggling as well. I seem to be able to walk the mall but I get so bored on my treadmill and I only seem to be able to do about 15-20 minutes. I'm struggling with liquids too. I'm three weeks out. Glad I took this week off.

I have to force myself to walk. I walk very slowly (the drain hurts). Once I start walking I am ok. But I truly have to push myself.

I try to find something I enjoy doing. Walking my dogs through the neighborhood is my thing. I just can't do the treadmill over and over. Looking forward to summertime and getting in the pool to get more active as well.

My look Into a sport you enjoy. Kickboxing, swimming, Zumba, golf. I play soccer and it does not feel like exercise because I enjoy doing it.

I suck at exercise! I was walking one or two miles a day for the first month or so then I stopped. No reason. Just didn't go one day and poof... It's three months later. Now there's a foot of snow. I have the Insanity DVD set. In the closet. I don't know why I have zero motivation to exercise!!. I went to Zumba and loved it. Once. I asked for a Zumba DVD for Christmas so I'm hoping that will get me going.

Walking in a park near my home with my Lab was the key for me - but it didn't come easily. I literally forced myself to do it for the first six weeks or so. Amazingly, I woke up one day and just sort of came to the realization that I not only enjoy it, but I notice the physical and mental changes if I don't walk for more than a couple of days. It took a little while to get to that point but some kind of exercise really is quite addictive once you get into the routine. Like so many things, the hard part is getting started. And like so many have said, it's crucial to find something that you enjoy and that may take some experimenting. But there are a lot of options and your efforts will absolutely be rewarded many times over. The benefits are countless including the really big one - you'll lose more weight and lose it more quickly!

I used to be that way; now I need to have my workout in as much as I need to eat! You have to find something that you like...there are a lot of things out there to do...walking the mall like Worm2872 said is fine...but you need to remember many of you are new at this...this is the time that you need to set your good habits in motions...repitition becomes habit...I started walking, then had my Ipod set up with music I love to listen to, I told myself that I would walk 3 of my favoirites and be done...the next thing you know your are doing three more to add to it and so the next thing is you have gone three miles and never realized it! Water areobics are great for newbies...low impact something to do at you own pace...I now run three miles every other day and cycle two days a week and bellydance for the fun workout!

The one thing I always do is drink!!! Dehydration for us is a real serious problem, I sip something every fifteen minutes...for those of you that are having a difficult time, I understand...I have been there...a trip to the hospital is a lot more expensive than a bottle of water...I carry a little soft cooler in my car packed with Water, Protein shakes and healthy Snacks...

In my first weeks post-op I used to set a timer for 15 minutes and take a fews sips when the timer went off...I also put the timer in a place I would have to get up to get it and turn it off...

You guys can do it!!! Believe in yourself, remember why you had this life changing surgery...to change your life...get out there and live life!!

Hugs,

L

I will be 4 weeks out tomorrow. Went on Monday to start my membership at the YMCA, and was told if I wait until Dec 26th, they will be running a special where it will be $15 cheaper a month and the initiation fee will be waived. So, guess what? Mama's saving some dough! LOL it's only 2 weeks, and it's not like running up and down the stairs chasing my 22m old doesn't burn calories! I won't lie, the main reason I am looking forward to working out......the 90m allotment of kid-watch they offer while you work out! LOL I am a stay at home mom, and dear God! I need time away from these kids! Getting my MP3 player stocked up with all my newest music, to be able to hit the eliptical and jam during a workout!

*When I say running the stairs, I really mean running the stairs. If I am upstairs doing something, like putting away laundry, she will run downstairs. Seems benign right? No. She gets into the refrigerator and pulls everything out. So I put a lock on the doors. Problem solved. Yeah, no. Now she opens the oven door, climbs up it to the counter and massacres my bread. So I must catch her before she does it. If I'm downstairs, doing dishes, she runs upstairs and gets into the upstairs bathroom and turns on all the Water faucets or plays in the toilet. Now I know what you're thinking, get a gate. I have 3! She bulldozes them down like they're not even there!!! LOL So, needless to say, I am constantly running the stairs for exercise! LOL

I'm finding myself using the cold and snow as my excuse...i used to walk everyday for 6 years...i didn't really lose then but I kept the weight off, plus my dog always needing walking. Well my dog still needs walking lol and I need it now more than ever but I haven't started yet. I'm actually still pretty sore but I'm sure that would improve the more I exercise. I did make the mistake of shoveling snow the other day..hope it's just more tender from the exercise and not from any damage...

I am a morning person so I get up a hour earlier and workout. You may want to start your day with exercise so there is less of a chance for you not to work out. I love to run and if I don't workout daily I don't feel complete, it feels like there is something missing. The key is finding a exercise you love.... anything that gets the heart rate pumping. I also have two high energy dogs so keeping them well exercised is also exercise for me and we all benefit from it. I have a eleptical, treadmill and weight machine in my basement so there are not excuses. You just need to find something you like...

I gotta do something. I am a nurse and work hard. I log an hour if slow pace walking to myfitnesspal each day I work. I logged snow shoveling the other day and was shocked how many calories that burns! I have some hand held weights and use those a couple times a week, my batwings are not pretty. Lol! My legs are good I just need to work my core and firm up. I plan to have plastics around the five year mark. Wanna make sure I've kept it off and have an exercise routine. I'm hoping this Zumba DVD gets me going.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
