protein chips

Recommended Posts

Cjoyce,

I have to say chips of any kind are a slippery slope for me...I can't think about them because of triggers...but I have an alternative for you that is both high Protein and crunchy and salty like chips...pepperoni slices cooked till crisp in the microwave...put about 6 slices on a papertowel and microwave about a minute...they become crunchy and very crisp...I like the turkey pepperoni slices the best...I also use them to dip into humus!!! Yummo.

Hope this is helpful to you.

I've had the cooked pepperoni slices and they are good but I want more of a chip taste....not worried about it triggering me...we have my FAVORITE chips in our pantry right now and I did eat a few at my daughters bday party but I wont keep eating them.....that's why I'm looking for something as an alternative. There are several different brands of Protein chips....high protein low calories and fat....just want to make sure what I order is gonna be good....not just taste like flavored cardboard....lol. May have a few Turkey pep slices done in the microwave today to satisfy that craving until I decide what to order :-)

Let me know what you order and how it tastes. I'm not a big chip eater but like to have the crunch now and then.

You might want to give Kellogg Special K Cracker chips a try. They come in several flavors and about 110 calories for 27 chips. I eat them anytime I would have formerly had french fries or chips. Really tasty! You can find them in Vons and also on Amazon.< /p>

You could take the whole grain low carb mission tortilla sprinkle or wipe with olive oil and sprinkle with seasoning and bake. Should b crispy break up and use as chips

One word about the special K chips and tortillia chips etc...please be aware of the carb count...I would not even think of adding anything like this to my diet until I was in maintance and was sure I was not ready to stop my weight loss...I manage between 50-75 grams a day now that I want to stop loosing...and that includes my vitamins! While I was loosing I kept my carbs to 35gms including my vitamins...so for you newbies out there, please be aware of the dangers of adding too many carbs to your diet...

Always a good idea to watch the carbs (and fat and protein). In my case, it was not necessary to wait until I had reached my goal weight to enjoy a few chips. I maintain a food log on a daily basis with the goal of maintaining a 40/30/30 calorie ratio of carbs, fat and Protein. The log allows me to know, at any time of the day, exactly where I'm at. If my carbs or fat are above the goal percentage, I plan my next meal accordingly. I almost always exceed the 30% protein goal but my surgeon recommends 100g a day so I expect to exceed the 30%. Food logs are very powerful tools that really put you in the driver's seat when it comes to making mindful food choices!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
