Day Five of Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

So I am on day five of just liquid and I am extremely hungry. I don't know if I can do this anymore. I am crying every night and dreaming about food. Which makes things harder. I know this is all worth it, but all I think about is food.

You can do it! I thought the same in the beginning of my 2 week liquid diet, but I only have 2 days left since my surgery is on Monday 12/10. Are you doing 2 weeks or 1? I found the 2nd week a lot easier since I wasn't as hungry. I tried to keep myself active cleaning the house, working and my kids just so I didn't think about it. Drink lots of Water when you are hungry or go do something to forget about the hunger. I also got the Isopure bottles which are great and contain 40 grams Protein, but they are $5 each at GNC. You can do it, it will be worth it!

And what are Isopure bottles?

Well you are almost 1/2 way! Isopure bottles are a Protein Drink. Actually 1 bottle is 40 grams of Protein, so really high in protein with no sugars. My doctor recommended them to me. They taste like kool aid, they also have ice tea and some other flavors. They are filling due to the high protein content. I bought a case of them to use before and after surgery. You can get them at GNC stores, not sure where else, I am sure they have them online too. I am on Clear Liquids now until Monday and I can drink them until 11am tomorrow since my doctor said that was ok. Then only Water until midnight, then nothing. You are getting close too! I can't wait to hear your progress, it will all be worth it. I was so scared yesterday and reading this forum has really calmed me down and I am really excited now! I can't wait to hear you say you are done with your 2 weeks liquids and your surgery is now here :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
