I had my surgery 8/12, I'm down 52lbs. I have done great so far with my weight loss however, I am beginning to pick up old habits. I drink soda everyday, started eating Cookies, and my solution after a stressful day of work is to have a cocktail. I'm pretty much a loner, so its easy to come home and find comfort in these things. :(

You have come to the right place. If you haven't done so already I would suggest getting an app like my fitness pal where you can track everything you put in your mouth. Remind yourself every day why you had the surgery. At this point you should find other ways to relieve stress... Exercise is a great way... Even if its just walking. You might want to think about seeing a therapist if you aren't already. The mind will trip us up more then anything. This tool is a great opportunity to change your life but you have to want it. Come on girl don't fall back on old habits... You got this

Actually, I have MFP and a therapist. I thank you for the reminders. I utilize my therapist for other reasons, but I guess she can also help me process this as well. Are you on MFP??? I am swilkins12 on there, let's be friends...

No one here can help you with your problem. Your surgeon can't help you either. The only person who can help you is you. You need to take responsibility for you actions and do something about it or you'll be another failed surgery and gain your weight back. You knew going in to this that it was a complete and total life change and that if you don't change your eating habits your body won't change either. Stop looking for comfort and do something.

Soda and Cookies and cocktails is what made you fat. If you decide to keep eating them post op then you deserve no sympathy.

Yes, talk to your therapist! I hear you and this frightens me too. Lebim was blunt but she is right. We are here to support you and help you but only you are there at night. Just like me. I have to fight this hurdle as well. Yes!! We can do it! I know I'm going to need therapy as well and a new coping mechanism.

I'm on MFP as well and would love to be your friend. I'm worm2872.

Shorty, it can be frustrating but keep signing on here everyday and read others testimonies and give it your best. Good Luck!

I understand the need for directness but its not at all okay to tell any one of us that we don't deserve something. While I'm sure you meant well, there are ways to be both truthful and supportive.

That kind of "Tough sh*t" thinking is definitely helpful to some people (myself included) but it can actually be harmful and counterproductive for a lot of people, like a few members of my WLS support group.

Swilkins, you can do this, and there are many strategies that will help you find success. I'm cheering for you to find the one that works best for you. It will be hard. But believe in yourself and love yourself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
