mrsblues 81 Posted December 29, 2012 I've also told people I did it because I needed to be healthy (see below), and the weight loss is an unfortunate side effect to the surgery. Get lots of puzzled looks on that one. Diabetes has sadly taken all of the members of my maternal side. I refuse to be part of the same statistics, having been diagnosed with diabetes and metabolic syndrome, over 5 years ago. Many were aware of the problems I was having with my health. I always thought I wasn't a candidate so I didn't inquire until I saw an episode on Dr. Oz and from there my journey began...... I am now only on thyroid medication....4 weeks out, life is good and my mission was accomplished. Now I have to put up with this awful side effect called "losing weight." Smiling big! Tammy1975 36 Posted December 30, 2012 I was going to say there is nothing lazy about having the surgery....All the prep you have to do before and what you have to do to make the sugery successful..My dr. told me the surgery is a tool...one that I have to take good care of...I get so pissed when people critize me for what I did to help better myself... worm2872 635 Posted December 30, 2012 They just don't know how much we suffered/ suffer everyday. Before with the weight and illnesses and now with trying to use the tool to make us healthy so we can be 'normal'. It makes me angry and sad. Easy way out. Blah. I will refrain from swearing. dottednails 122 Posted December 30, 2012 I am 6 weeks post OP and my father gave me a hug the other day and told me that he was glad he finally got his daughter back. As if I was hiding in a fat suit before oye. I told my husband and he said I should have asked my father when I was going to get my dad back as my dad is very overweight right now. Just makes you wonder what people really thought about you before. Sad

Lebim 381 Posted January 1, 2013 Mine happened over the holidays' date=' we were at a family members house for christmas and the minute I walk in the door I get dirty looks for a younger member of the family who also herself is overweight...well of course I didnt get to voice what i would like to have for the meal, so they made lasanga, ok that was fine but I of course can not eat pasta..So I made do and pick the one that had the cheese on it and picked through it with out eatting the Pasta part with some added cottage cheese, so I could get my protien. and I had some pudding from a desert that was made by gave my husband the chocolate that was on top...So still keeping with in the guidelines of my food intake. I get home and my son was upset about something so I talk to him and he told me the family members were in the kitchen bad mouthing me and that I was lying about what I can and can not eat...Now this didnt upset me because I knew and expect this reaction..But what was hurtful was that they did this in front of my son and he doesnt understand why they had to be so negative. I tried to explain to him that it didnt bother me but I could tell it really hurt.[/quote'] Wow. This actually managed to disgust me. I'm sorry this happens in your family - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgerversary 6/11/2012
