Liquid Diet Support

Recommended Posts

yes you are right @Snow25, they are processed, I have ate them for years, but I cant stand them now. We have a little family owned market here where I live and they have their own beef and chicken, and fresh veggies. I have bought 3 containers of the Unjury already. the chocolate, unflavored, and chicken broth. stocking up on sugar free Jello. I lost my job last week, and being home all day now preparing for my surgery is a good focus for me. just gotta remember, I am eating to live, not living to eat. food is evil.

I've been on the liquid Protein diet (only liquids high in protein--no solids) for 12 day now. Seems like you do get used to it, at least a little bit. My motivation is that I want to do everything possible to improve my chances for a successful surgery on Monday. If it weren't for that, I just don't think I could do it.

Fortunately for me, my doctor allows any Liquid Protein that contributes to the goal of 60+ grams of Protein a day with a total per day of 900-1200 calories. I'm so grateful for the variety. Even the drinks I don't care for much are nice for variation--I just have to have variation!

Walmart (wish it was somewhere else--I have serious problems with Walmart BTW), has one of my favorites: vanilla Body Fortress Super Advanced whey Protein. I use 1 scoop in two cups of 1% milk, which gives me 140 calories and 26g of protein for the Protein powder and 200 calories and 16 grams of protein for the milk. So drinking that one thing gives me 340 calories and 42 g. of protein. Not bad!

Three weeks ago I ordered some bariatric Protein Drink sample pacs online but they haven't come yet. Guess I'll try them after surgery if they don't come today. I'll let you know how they taste--lots of interesting flavors!

Good luck everyone!

So sorry about your job, Gal. Can they do that right before you take sick leave? The timing seems suspect to me. Good attitude on everything. I have to remember to eat to live as well. Do you have to buy unjury online or is it available in grocery stores? It's one I haven't tried yet. Hang in there!

Oh Lawd... I just started the 2 week opti fast diet. I'm going to need support to make it through these 2 weeks! Day 1.. Done. Anyone else doing liquid diets right now?

I had to do Optifast for 2 weeks as well. I was able to do 4 shakes, 2 Protein bars, chicken broth, sf Jello & sf Popsicles. What can you have each day?

I didnt like the body fortress til I mixed it with soy nog and soy milk with cinnamon and nutmeg. Took the aftertaste completely away!

Also, I'm told by my nut that the most Protein you should have at once is about 30g. Not sure why but I'm sure Dr Google can tell you!

I was told the body cannot absorb more than 30 grams at once. If you have something with more than 30 grams in it you should split it up during the day. Do half at one time and the other half later.

Oh, that's interesting about the 30 grams at once. My nut said just to be sure to drink lots of Water if you are having more than 60 g a day of Protein, which we are supposed to do anyway. My dr. is having an 1 1/2 hour seminar today for everyone having surgery on Monday. I'll be sure to ask if I'm drinking too much protein or too much at once, since we have to do this after the surgery, too. I'll let you know.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. I starting using the unflavored Unjury Protein today. I mixed if in cream of wheat & in mashed potatoes. It's not bad. My surgeons office sells it.

Well... Not very linguistic, but that sucks that you lost your job! Hoping for blue skies and bright opportunities headed your way. I like your thought process... Eating to live NOT living to eat! I need to stock up on my post op Clear liquids. Gotta say, doc makes it easy before surgery... Drink this liquid diet or I will cut you open instead of dong it laparoscopically. Day 3.. Almost done. I think the weekend s going to be more challenging than the week. Good luck to you, hippie gal. One liquid day at a time! :0)

I can only have 4 Optifast shakes & one Soup daily. And Water... Lots and lots of water! I can also have crystal light mixes in my Water, but I'm not a big fan, so for now just water. I have already stArted chewable Vitamins... So those are the only solids that I have eaten.

I was told 40g was all the protein the body could absorb at once. The rest is wasted. Please let us know what you learn at the seminar. I'd like to know how much protein I can get in at once. Especially for after surgery.

thanks for the comments, my nutritionist said I had to get in 60 to 60 grams Protein a day, so just to divide that up the way you can. I have a feeling I will do alot of chicken broth, but will add lots of spices to it. I have alot of ideals and will share when I start this when I think its good. I already bought some almond and mint flavoring for the chocolate shakes.

Oh and not sure if I mentioned it but if so here I go again, I signed up today at a beauty college so I can learn to do nails and everything that goes with that. I love mani pedi's so I figured why not do it for others so they feel the excitment too. I start class January 8th, and very excited,

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
