February 5th banded

Recommended Posts

Today is first full day after surgery...man I wasn't expecting to feel like I had been in a car wreck but my pain killer helps resolve a majority of that, I still don't have any regrets...I am hoping for a speedy recovery, to begin my life as a new me!

I have noticed though, no one has made mention of a "On Q" catheter being placed after surgey, is this new? It's a tiny catheter placed into one of the insicion sites that slowly dispences novicane in the area of your incisions. It is temporary ....It will be removed on my 3 day post op visit.

I am so very pleased to come across this forum....I makes me feel as if there are others whom I can look to for inspiration, I thank each and every one of you for that!

Well I can't say anything about the On Q thingy as I have no idea but I wanted to welcome you and say congrats on getting banded. You'll find tons of information here as well as a great support system.

Feel better soon.

:clap2: Congrats on your new journey! The "on Q thingy" that you spoke of is a wonderful device. It cuts down on the number of pain pills one has to take. It is being used more and more in surgery patients, especially Laparascopic surgery. Im a nurse, and really just started seeing these being used often about 4 yrs ago. The first time I saw one in my patient, I had to call the surgeon and ask him what it was. He said "oh, didnt you get the memo?" smart a** dr's. :) Im gonna request one when i get banded. The "on Q" thingy is great!

Thanks Guys.....today makes four days after surgery....still a little weak but the sorness is definatley improving. I am still a little on the nervous side on how to tell when I have eat/drank enough. I am at the full liquid stage...this morning i drank a Protein Shake and feel FULL! I feel a slight tightness in the center of my chest....I take this is a normal thing? I see how easy it can be to get a little nervous about being able to eat again.:)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
