I'm still 5 months out from having surgery but I started using whey Protein and have noticed that there is a difference in the brands been doing some research but still haven't pin pointed it down. It's something to do with the lactose and different things they add. It causes serious stomach problems for me too. Hoping to get this figured out by time I have surgery any input on this would be great

There are drops that you can put in your milk to stop that, or you can switch to soy milk which is what I drink it's good for you and you will get your Protein with out the animal fat or mucus that it gives you.

I also cannot drink >4oz of milk without getting ill. I've even tried lactose free milk and have had problems. I just drink it slow to avoid discomfort. I unfortunately am allergic to the bonding properties in soy/almond/rice milk so that's out of the question.

Weirdest thing though: I always drink a grande vanilla roobios latte at Starbucks (half caffeine free herbal tea with half 2% steamed milk and 1 pump of sf hazelnut) so that comes out to about an entire cup of steamed milk and I could chug it without problems. This makes NO SENSE because steaming milk makes it sweeter because it releases more lactose. Go figure. Ps the drink is delicious and a great source of Protein (8-9g) - you guys should try it.

I also can drink a venti (20oz) earl grey tea with about 4oz of half&half without any discomfort, but GOD FORBID I even look at normal milk.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
