Banded Feb 9th, my journey

Recommended Posts

I'm 12 days post op and still feeling great!!! 10 days and counting to when I get to eat solid foods. The post op diet is going great so far. I am stronger when it comes to mental hunger. I am hoping that my strength and focus carry over to the solid food phase.

No gas pains for me. I walked a lot the day after surgery and I think that really helped. I have not had any nausea or any other problems to report thus far. All is great with the band!!!

Thanks for all the info. Tomorrow is my day! I can't believe it. I'm trying not to think about it that much and just go for it without stressing myself out. I'm glad you're doing so well.

This is all great to hear! I was just banded on 2/20 and am home recovering. I am on Clear Liquids and sipping all day to get enough in. I have yet to feel real hunger. The food smells and looks great but the overwhelming desire to eat it at all costs has left me. That alone is quite the miracle! I am hoping that the healing time will go quickly as I am already getting stir crazy here at home. I wish the best to you! Thanks for sharing the encouragement!

Mlevel,

Congrats on your band! You'll be movin' and groovin' in no time!!! That surgery didn't keep me down one bit. I was up shopping in Mexico the next day!

Good luck!

Well, today is day 21 of my post op diet. I get to eat solid foods starting tomorrow. I am a little bit nervous but also anxious to see if I get full faster and stay full longer. I am hoping to go as long as possible without my first fill. I have a meal plan together and I feel ready.

More later.

It's my one month bandiversary!! I am feeling great and have lost 17 pounds total. It is getting a little bit harder because I don't have any or much restriction. My first fill is scheduled for April 14th and I can't wait!! However, I am using old fashioned will power and new eating habits that I have formed over the last month. I am eating much less than before the band but I don't feel full for long and I do notice more hunger. I hope to keeping dropping a few pounds before my fill.

Stay away from bread and dry meat when you start eating solids. I learned the hard way. It get stuck going down and you feel like you have a frog in your throat. Not a good feeling!

Good luck!!

I had my first fill on April 14th and he made me pretty tight (I think). He gave me 2.25cc's in my 4cc band. I've been drinking full liquids like Protein shakes and creamy Soups and I've been doing fine with them. I will start eating solids in the next day or so. I was still down 20 pounds when I got my first fill so I was happy with that. I hope to lose some more now that I have my fill.

Good luck everyone!!!!

Hi Pamela - I've been watching your progress and I am so happy for you (I met you the day of surgery in Ortiz's office). Go easy when you start solids and I'm sure you will be fine - now the fun really begins.

My last fill is finally working! I'm eating 600 or less (mostly less) calories a day and I've lost almost 10lbs since my fill! I'm thrilled. I'm down 16 total - which is super duper for me.

take care! mary

I must say that I really love my band. I have struggled to loose 5 pounds and then to keep it off was another struggle. This is the first time in a very long time that I am finally loosing weight and keeping it off. I know that I couldn't do it without my band or I would have already done it.

It might be a struggle to get the right fill amount but I don't know much about that yet as I have only had one fill so far and it seems to be working really well.

Now, I need to motivate myself to get to the gym 3 or 4 days per week. It's not that I don't enjoy going but I am pretty busy in the evenings but I just need to start making the time. Once I get this part implemented in my daily routine, it's all gravy baby!!!!! My body should really see improvements.

I hope my journey will give you some insight so that you can make the right decision for yourself. To be banded or not? In my case, YES!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
