ok so tomorrow I will be 5 weeks post op. how much realistically should I be eating at this stage? how many calories? I feel I may be overeating because I get a lot of calories each day. right at or over 800. I see on myfitnesspal where some barely get 300-400 a day. I am really worried about this as I can eat 1/2-3/4 cup where some say one to two bites!!

I was on 10/23--I try not to go over 1/2 cup or 4 oz--I was also concerned about eating too much but my NUT said if something is really moist and soft that's why you can eat more.

My surgeon gave me specific instructions on what to eat and how much. The first 3 wks I was 2-4 oz.of yogurt for Breakfast, portein shake for snack, 2-4 oz. of Soup for lunch and something mushy for dinner 2-4 oz. Check with your surgeon or nutritionist on exactly what you sould be eating and how much. Each surgeon is different.

I was just like you! I was upset and decided to just screw it, I'm eating that bread stick.....yeah, that 4in breadstick made me want to die! Not dumping, just so full it hurt. BUT I think it was just what I needed, because almost like magic, the next day I made scrambled eggs for breakfast. Put my portion in the 1/2 C container and after 2 bites, dear lord I was dying again! I wouldn't advocate anyone putting themselves in pain, but if you are loosing weight, staying hydrated, and getting in your Protein, then rock on! We are all different! I read peoples stories about vomiting and being unable to keep down Water, I feel terrible for those folks, since I came home from the hospital being able to almost chug Water, at least drink normally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
