Low Blood Pressure

Recommended Posts

So I haven't spoken to a doctor yet but I think I now have low blood pressure 5 months out. If I'm sitting or lying down and get up I feel like I may fall over and this is 10x worse after I've smoked shrubbery because that in itself lowers your blood pressure. I also have been getting dizzy spells in general which are severe until I lie down. I'm also cold all the time which I wasn't when I was this weight 4 years ago. All signs point to it in my opinion. Anyone else experience this?

You may have low BP. Are you still on meds? Also the cold could be the rapid weight loss or low Iron. I'd call your dr. :-)

Well I did chat with them about being cold and they said that's just part of not being insulated by fat anymore and that they're cold all the time (they're all thin).

If by meds you mean my Vitamins, yes I am still religious about those.

Yeah I'll chat with a doctor about it... It's just really hard to know if I have low blood pressure because every time I get that cuff on my arm I get anxious (I hate the feeling of it squishing my arm) and so it automatically jumps up no matter what so it's never accurate :/

You need to have an ortho static blood pressure check. They will check it lying, sitting, and standing. This will give you a more accurate picture of whether or not your BP is bottoming out.

How is that performed? And thanks for the info!

They either do it on a tilt table or on a regular bed. They just take the BP while you're lying down, immediately after you sit up, and then again immediately after you stand.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
