3Rd Day Post Op Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

I seemed to get some great nurses and some not so great nurses. But I just don't think nurses or people in general who have not had the surgery realize how bad it is. They see it as elective and therefore not severe. First week is the worst, it gets better. I am a law and order gal myself. I hope u feel better soon.

I have watched about 30 episodes of law an order. Lol!! It's kept me sane.

Anyway, you are so right. I was lucky to have a lot of nurses that actually had the surgery. They were so helpful!! Others were in the process.

Nicky, glad to hear you are progressing. :-)

Law and order! That made me laugh! I watched a marathon the entire time I was in the hospital. I didn't realize there were so many episodes

Right along with everyone on the nurses and Law and Order. The nurses at Bailey was awesome! I got released the day after my surgery due to I had done all that I was suppose to complete before going home. Still running low grade fever can not seem to shake it. Sent hubby to shop for some fleece pants and waiting on him to come back to see how he did!!! Lol

Hang in there everyone and the ones that are still in the hospital sending go home prayers your way.

I had my RNY done at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, FL 12 days ago. 1st my Dr does a drain, endoscopy, and barium swallow. All of the hard work paid off in peace of mind if nothing else. My nurses were fabulous and as helpful or not helpful as I needed. I never waited more than 5 minutes and when I called panicked in the middle of the night because I felt like my bladder was going to explode they didn't make me feel stupid. (I had fallen asleep on the tube and it had been backing up, so empty catheter bag/full bladder). The next day I was wheeled down for my barium swallow to xray. They had me sip a couple of times and it was done. The flavor was only so/so but not gag worthy. In addition my surgeon fixed a hiatal hernia he saw during the endoscopy that has corrected and GERD/acid reflux I was suffering. The Dr and his nurse Jennifer both came to see me while I was in recovery. I didn't really watch tv sorry I was sleeping. I also had a drain they checked and emptied every couple of hours. I was kept on a pain pump (not sure what it is called) until half way through day 2. Went home on day 3 feeling tired but good. I went for my followup yesterday and was moved to puree...Yeah! Sounds like your hospital wasn't very interested in your comfort, sorry that they treated you that way. Best of luck to you, hope the rest gets easier for you. Prayers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
