So question for the women, I had gastric bypass on Aug 22 of this year. I am getting married October 12, 2013. I have lost a total of 76lbs so far but obviously plan on loosing a lot more. My dilemma is, when should I start shopping for a wedding dress? I'm afraid If I start trying them on now, I will loose too much weight to still fit in it. I also don't want to wait too long with not enough time to come in and for alterations. Plus I have have no clue if ill still be considered plus size or not and that plays a big role in the styles of dresses. Help!! :/

Do you think by the summer you will have enough time to pick out a dress and get alterations done... I would guess by then you would know where you were going to be... Congrats on the weight loss and the big day

Thank you! I have no idea if that will be enough time. I'm thinking I should wait as long as I can with also allowing enough time for alterations and for the dress to come in. Maybe someone at the dress shop would be able to help me with timelines. :)

David's Bridal will exchange your dress if its too big for alterations. I had no problem when I got married last year. I lost about 30 pounds for my wedding and had to get my dress exchanged. I was on adipex during my pre op... I just told my consultant I was on a medically supervised diet and may have issues with my dress fitting if I lost too much weight... :).

Congrats! I hope that helps!

Congrats on all accounts. Like others have said make sure where ever you look understands you situation. Also what you like right now may change a lot by spring or summer. What an exciting predicament to be in. Just window shop a lot right now. Hugs to you.

Ask the bridal store about the time you have to place your dress order. Find what you like and just wait to make your purchase until you are further along. Congratulations to you, I need to get a boy friend so I can get married some day. :-)

I had my dress custom made. It was cheaper than buying at retail and having it altered. I went to a bridal show and they have dress makers there. The woman I found was wonderful. My dress is 100% original and fit perfectly. A dress maker can start with your design now and make the dress when you are at a more stable weight. Congrats and good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
