NicoleL1016 12 Posted December 1, 2012 So question for the women, I had gastric bypass on Aug 22 of this year. I am getting married October 12, 2013. I have lost a total of 76lbs so far but obviously plan on loosing a lot more. My dilemma is, when should I start shopping for a wedding dress? I'm afraid If I start trying them on now, I will loose too much weight to still fit in it. I also don't want to wait too long with not enough time to come in and for alterations. Plus I have have no clue if ill still be considered plus size or not and that plays a big role in the styles of dresses. Help!! :/
kristy3k 1,133 Posted December 1, 2012 Do you think by the summer you will have enough time to pick out a dress and get alterations done... I would guess by then you would know where you were going to be... Congrats on the weight loss and the big day
NicoleL1016 12 Posted December 1, 2012 Thank you! I have no idea if that will be enough time. I'm thinking I should wait as long as I can with also allowing enough time for alterations and for the dress to come in. Maybe someone at the dress shop would be able to help me with timelines. nickster81 19 Posted December 1, 2012 Check with a place like David's Bridal and ask about timelines.
peachee213 67 Posted December 1, 2012 David's Bridal will exchange your dress if its too big for alterations. I had no problem when I got married last year. I lost about 30 pounds for my wedding and had to get my dress exchanged. I was on adipex during my pre op... I just told my consultant I was on a medically supervised diet and may have issues with my dress fitting if I lost too much weight... . Congrats! I hope that helps! Vicki Loichinger 444 Posted December 1, 2012 Congrats on all accounts. Like others have said make sure where ever you look understands you situation. Also what you like right now may change a lot by spring or summer. What an exciting predicament to be in. Just window shop a lot right now. Hugs to you. FinerWoman 90 Posted December 1, 2012 Ask the bridal store about the time you have to place your dress order. Find what you like and just wait to make your purchase until you are further along. Congratulations to you, I need to get a boy friend so I can get married some day. :-)

music1618 879 Posted December 2, 2012 I had my dress custom made. It was cheaper than buying at retail and having it altered. I went to a bridal show and they have dress makers there. The woman I found was wonderful. My dress is 100% original and fit perfectly. A dress maker can start with your design now and make the dress when you are at a more stable weight. Congrats and good luck!
