Any Canadians? Ontario?

Hi. New member. Live in Ancaster, Ontario. Pre-op. Interested in hearing abt people's experiences at St.Joe's in Hamilton. I'm also not sure at what point in the process OHIP makes it's decision for coverage. Feel free to DM if you wish.

I don't think the wait times are any longer than 2 months for self-pay. It depends on the clinic and surgeon. Most of my research suggests 2-3 months max. Hope this helps.

I'm in Toronto. F in early 30s. I just have my nurse practitioner appt this month. I have no idea how long the wait is before I get a surgery date. No one said anything about 5 years! Lol

Just curious if you had surgery? I'm in Ancaster Ontario and I'm wondering abt wait times. There doesn't seem to be a lot of Canadians on this app.

I'm from Toronto. ...had my sleeve done Aug 29th....big learning curve however happy I did it!!!

Where did you have the sleeve done? How has your healing been? All good- I hope. :) Did ohip cover it and if so what was your wait time from the dr referral to the Bariatric centre to the surgery? Sorry to inundate you with questions- it's just rare that I find someone from Ontario!

That seems so long! I'm still waiting for my orientation appointment. I'm eager to get things going but also wanting to take the time to prepare myself. How has the process been for you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
