Hi everyone!!! I'm a few days post op (11/26 was the day of surgery) and just have a couple of random questions.

1. Is it common to get hot and cold often. I'm not running a temp but I just get hot. Usually at night I get really cold and by morning I'm all sweaty.

2. I was released from the hospital yesterday (11/28) and was doing really well. Today they told me to start my Vitamins and continue on a

puréed diet and do my Protein Shakes and none of it has agreed with me. Will i be ok without all this for a couple more days?? I have been drinking Water and that has stayed down and hasn't made me sick.

Also if anyone could help me with some good puréed receipts that would be awesome. Just looking at food doesn't make me want to eat anything.

my life savor was cream of chicken Soup. but at my one week post op they put me on pureed/soft phase so mashed potatoes and really

fried Beans helped. it is normal to be hot and cold. you do uahw to get your Protein in as it helps qwith healing

I had mine on the 19th and yes hot and cold are normal parts of the healing process. I was on Clear liquids for week after. I would stick to them for most of your diet. I am just now on liquids only. Puréed is next week. SF Popsicles were my life savor and broth. I know it sucks but may help.

Hey! Welcome to the post op community !! I was on Clear Liquids for one week after and then started total liquids for an extra week, so I just started puréed food on the 3 week. Also my doctor didn't told me to start my Protein Shake and Vitamins until I was 1 and a half months post op and I had no problems what so ever, but I'm NOT a doctor so maybe you have other needs different to mine. My advice would be to just give him a call and explain your tummy is not agreeing with the Protein and vitamins, and ask if you can start in a couple of days or if you can start with less and increment it little by little. Good luck !!

Thank you so much for answering my questions. It helps a lot. It's nice to be able to talk to people about all this.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
