Thank you Thank you.

In the summer i do a lot of walking... even jogging. Up to 15km a day. In the winter I hybernate (i live in canada). I have maintained my weightloss for 4 years now... give or take 5-8 lbs. I actually like to excercise now but if i dont i dont think that i would gain any of it back. I still watch everything I eat and even tho i'm 4 years post-op i will still dump if i eat somethig that i'm not suppose to. Thats a rare occasion now tho.

This is really inspiring to read for me. I'm curious that you mention dumping still happening. What foods cause you to dump? Are there any 'bad' foods you can eat? And, if you don't mind answering. How much can you eat now at a sitting?

Yes. I still dump after 4 years but the episodes are few and far between now. During the honeymoon period i was dumping almost every day. It was hard to adjust to small quantities of food. Finally after 3-4 months my brain finally got the message that eating too much or certain food was no good and the desire to eat more than the 2 bites was gone. Pasta still kills me to this day. Im Italian and i cant eat pasta. It doesnt bother me to not be able to eat it as you would think. Every day i watch my family eat some form of pasta but every once in a blue moon i'll give it a shot and i dump. No matter what kind f pasta it is... whole wheat, spinach, rice pasta, egg pasta... i dump every time. There also is th every rare case when i eat too fast and i will dump. I find that I can eat chocolate now without dumping but i stay away from it except for Halloween lol. I can eat about 1-1/2 cups of food at a sitting. My favourite snack is one slice of Whole Wheat bread toasted with margarine and sometime SF jam. That fills me up perfectly. I can eat 2 slices of bread now at one sitting. ANd i can also drink Water after eating my meal... something that i could not do right after surgery and was really troublesome for me as i take meds for a back problem. When it came time for my meds, if it didnt go down with the first gulp of water i was in trouble and had to wait 20-30 mins for another chance in getting that pill down. I cant do it without water, i'm a baby.

Thank you for the info, it's really helpful to me. If you can answer one more question. Is it mainly just Pasta that causes the dumping or all dense carbs? What about sweets or fried foods in general.

I'm asking to just get a sense of how many foods are likely to go on the 'never touch' list after I have surgery.

Thank you again for the the previous response.

Pasta and certain meats like ribs are off limits to me. Hamburger is fine (bc its ground up). Sugars are a hit and miss. Sometimes ill dump sometimes im ok but i ALWAYS feel crappy after eating sugar. I stay away from fried foods but i am ok with eating them. Im good with rice. I also dump on Protein Shakes. After doing the Optifast liquid diet 3 weeks prior to surgery the site and smell of a shake just makes me sick but in order to get my Protein in they want you to do the shakes. I've tried and cant do it. I do B12 shots every 2-3 weeks and i'm perfectly fine. I do my bloodwork every year like clockwork and everything is spot-on.

FYI. Sugars and sweets should be on your never touch list wether or not they make you dump. Its been my experience with talking to many many post-op'rs that once they started back with the sweets and junk food that they're weightloss momentum diminished and that was the turning point for gaining all their weight back.

Thank you. Thank you.

That's right... do what makes you feel good. It doesnt matter what other people say or do. As long as youre happy thats all that matters.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
