Tampons In Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all! So my surgery had been pushed back by a week twice. I finally go in tomorrow morning and of course my period started today. I just got off the phone with my nurse and when I asked her about it she said I could keep a tampon in "no problem".

Since this is he powder room, ladies, did anyone else keep their tampons in during surgery? I've heard of people having to go without anything or use the spiderweb panty. I'm actually glad about it but I just thought it was interesting. Just goes to show how varying the doctors and the details can be.

Eek...I wouldn't feel comfortable with a tampon in during surgery, but then again, I don't ever feel comfortable with one lol. Maybe you could wear a pad? I don't know. I may have my period too when my surgery is scheduled =/ Not fun.

See, that's what I'm thinking will happen. We'll see. At least I know I can wear a pad. I just couldn't imagine...

I was not allowed anything during surgery...but all places seem to be different. Best of luck I know once I woke up that was the first thing I asked about!! I was super uncomfortable without one in...

I wouldn't be comfortable with one in. What if something (God forbid) should happen during surgery and you are like, in a coma or something, or at least heavily sedated for a few days. Would anyone think to check for a tampon?

I had my period during surgery. I was given a pad & spiderweb panties. They still put the pee tube thing in my cuca. So imagine.

Since they will most likely put in a urine catheter at least through surgery I wouldn't think you would want anything else down there. Just talk to your pre op nurses and ask them to help you and then your nurses on the floor. they have dealt with everything so don't be afraid to let them know what your needs are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
