YES, YES, A THOUSAND TIMES YES!!!

The most intelligent decision I made in my adult life was having this surgery.

Oh yeah, sorry... I was a little excited with my response...I'm about 6 1/2 months post op and I (unfortunately) have found I can eat just about anything. I don't, however, eat EVERYTHING. I think that's key.

I can eat a whole lot less than I used to, that's for sure!

I have to admit sometimes when I'm so hungry I feel like I'm starving I want to eat so much and it's like noooo! I'm full already! LOL

pinky.... I have certain things that I cannot eat. Things have to be really moist and wet to eat. I concentrate mostly on getting Protein in all day. I use my fitness pal to track it. Think like Atkins only much smaller portions. I was lucky in that I had no complications other then starting to lose my hair at 3 months. I just upped my protein and started taking Biotin and that leveled itself out. I too never feel hunger pains. I have to remind myself to eat. This coming from a person who never knew what feeling full felt like prior to surgery. So, it has been a nice reminder when my pouch says... ok... thats enough. You have to chew the hell out of your food and you have to stay hydrated. Vitamins for life. It is a life changing decision and one not to take lightly. You will mourn food like a relative that has died. It is important that your mind is ready for this. Also, weight does not just drop off like everyone seems to think. You will hit stalls. I have been at the same weight for 2 and half weeks and still am eating like a bird. You have to tweek things, up protein, exercise... and work the tool. This is not an easy thing like most people think. It is hard. We give up food which for most of us was our friend. Am I happier now that I have had the surgery.... Hell yes!! not just because of the pounds I have dropped... but because I have my confidence back and am exercising.. and for once in my life... I am in control of my destiny. Good luck on your decision. Research research research. It is a life time commitment!!

If you would have asked me this last Thursday an Friday I would have said no. I had a stricture from a staple and had to have emergency surgery. But I am fine now and doing well. I post this not to scare you but yes there can be complications and it is a rough road at times. But the end results are worth it. I can't believe I'm not hungry. I want what I see on tv or what I make for dinner but its different. I have some yogurt and move on. Good luck!!

Hi there! I am 5 years out from my gastric bypass. I would do it again and again if I had to. I had amazing results! I am SO much happier. I really REALLY appreciate that I did the "full thing". I knew the gastric bypass would give me a lot more restrictions and I loved that because I knew that I would cheat anyway I could. If I could find a way to eat more or eat junk food or sip on milkshakes I would..I knew with the gastric bypass it would not allow me to do anything like that. I needed that discipline that I couldn't give myself. I'm 5'4 I went in weighing 300 lbs and today I am 115 lbs! I lost 160 lbs in the first year. Anyway... I highly recommend it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
