Tonight should be fun and interesting. Big Family Christmas Party. Some people I haven't seen for a few months. Wonder if the 30 pounds I have dropped with pre op and surgery will be noticeable? I am sure not worried about the food. I am taking a Protein Drink and a couple ounces of applesauce and going to socialize instead of worry about eating. My step daughter made our contributions to the pitch in so I didn't even have to cook something I wouldn't be eating. I am pretty stoked about going, it will be the first time out of the house since coming home from the hospital. Going to try to take a nap this afternoon so I am well rested and can really enjoy everyone., Hope everybody is have a great Saturday.

Momlambert glad to hear from you since surgery. Hope the coughing gets better. Glad to hear of no serious issues with this weeks postings. I am scheduled for Monday. Getting a bit nervous. Have had other surgeries and don't look forward to the pain. Anyone have the Q pump? That is what my doctor uses for pain.

I had the Q pump but surely he will give you hydrocodone as well. All the Q does is numb you, which is totally helpful but not enough. Mine lasted 3 days before I pulled it out.

Have fun! I'm going to the movies with my sis in law and niece while my 3 yr old and nephews hang out at house. They are spending the night and it will be pizza night at my house which is my fav but I'm not too worried.

I had my surgery on the 10th... I am in pain... Most of the time it's not bad but ohhh man I woke up with awful pain right now and I hate the loritab taste :( how long until people started feeling better?? This is my first surgery ever so I really didn't know what I was getting myself into... I still cry and wish I could have been successful losing weight without surgery hopefully soon ill feel better and be glad for what I've just done

I am sorry you are still in pain. How are you feeling now? Those same thoughts creep in, wishing I could have been successful without surgery. But yes soon it will get better and you will start seeing results and feeling better.

Ok soooo feeling better and here is my full update as I'm pretty proud of myself! I went in on Monday and everything went well... This was my first surgery so I was really nervous! I did we'll getting up and walking around and using the breathing thing that I was able to go home Tuesday! Wednesday and Thursday were sore and today I finally got out of the house to see my daughters Christmas program. I was trying to convince myself to not weigh myself until my 2 week follow up but I couldn't resist. So I hopped up on the scale and I'm down 12.5lbs! I've had moments of "damn I wish I didn't do this!" So I think seeing that was very helpful :) hope everyone is doing well!!

Oh you already updated so you can ignore my other post :-) I'm a few pages behind reading in order as I go. Congrats on losing the weight and glad you're feeling better.

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well, even after complications. I had surgery on Monday and came home yesterday. Doing pretty well but am grateful for liquid Loritab--I still need it every 5-6 hours. Still have a drain, but it will come out on Tuesday. I'm not worried about that because I had bowel surgery in January last year and when they removed the drain it didn't hurt at all. I didn't have a binder (I'm trying to cover all the discussion topics I've been following here, in case you can't tell).

Last night I had lots of trouble sleeping because I coughed and coughed. I don't have a cold or anything and I only cough when I'm lying down. I propped myself up with 5 pillows and it helped a little but I still coughed. If that goes on tonight, I may try sleeping in a chair. I don't have a recliner but I do have a couple of comfy stuffed rocking chairs, so it might work. I've been using the incentive spirometer. I can't imagine it's pneumonia, but it does feel like it could be bronchitis. I feel fine, though--no stuffiness or congestion or anything. I talked to the nurse today and she thought the doctor might want me to come in for a chest x-ray to make sure I don't have pneumonia, but I never heard back so he must have not been too concerned. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem or know what to do to get some sleep?

Good luck to everyone who is recovering and to those still looking forward to the surgery. It's no picnic but not really horrible. I had the band removed, which made my surgery about 4 hours, but other than that everything seemed to go well. Good night, everyone!

The coughing could be from you being on a vent during the surgery. I still am coughing up lots of stuff. The first couple days home, I constantly coughed and didnt feel comfortable laying down flat until last night.

I am not getting near enough fluids. I am overthinking I think! I don't want to irritate or stretch my pouch so I am taking small sips but how often do you need to wait between small sips? What do you all do? Like sip every minute or every five minutes?? Seems like such a silly question but I don't want to stretch it or overfill it but I need to do something differently as I am not getting enough.

Same here!! I coughed up something awful while in the hospital and I just knew I must have pneumonia! But they explained it was due to the vent. After a couple days at home it got better.

Ohhh I'm so glad to hear of your progress! Congrats

Thank you so much....I use the New Whey Protein Shots 30ml=10grams of protein....its the only way I can get all my Protein in. Since I have been using that to get my protein in, I have had tons of energy.

15th surgery!!! I feel like a big complainer now! I can't believe I did this to myself because of all the pain and I'm relatively certain I would have backed out knowing how much it would hurt after! But you knew and took it on anyway... That's bravery right there! Way to go!

But the pain will pass...i would rather go thru a short struggle pain than the rest of my life of major health issues....here is my Biggest Reason for doing this...3yrs ago at age 45 I was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer...it was Hell going thru radiation 5 days a week for 10 wks plus 2 rounds of internal radiation that were 3 days at a time and chemo every week...although I've been in remission for 2 1/2 years it put me on the couch feeling drained..moving less everyday..gaining 50 lbs and now dealing with more serious health issues...I'vE finally decided I've gone thru too much to just sit back and let high blood pressure or diabetes take over! I'm 49...I'm not ready to croak yet! I am disabled as I'm legally blind and have both my corneas transplanted....I'm not ready to give up yet!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
