Foods I Need To Know About

Recommended Posts

Can u ever eat popcorn? Can you drink soda? How about those two together? I'm a movie addict, will I have to give up my popcorn and soda? I'm also fond of margaritas , is that a no? I'm just so nervous I won't be able to do this. Are there absolute no's on certain things? Thanks !

Hey! You have a lot of good questions, but I would worn you no one has the same effects from the surgery. Some people can't tolerate milk, eggs, sugar, bread, or candy etc.. Others do not get sick at all. Why would you want to go back to drinking sodas if they are unhealthy? After surgery, your thinking changes and you have to focus on eating Protein around the clock.

Sodas are no nos after bypass because of the gas and stretching your pouch. popcorn would be really rough. Being a week post op I'm cringing lol.

I would think eventually a puff kind in small amounts maybe ok. Also I found these great popcorn Special K chips. I'm about six months from them now but I will use them as a substitute if I need too.

I'm almost 8 months post op and had popcorn about 2 wks ago, I was really afraid at first and just had a few pieces and waited about 20 minutes, I had no pain or anything like that so i had a cup full. I'm not a big popcorn fan but I do like it at the movies. Please be careful and not put any of that movie theater butter on it because it is loaded with fat !! you will get sick for sure. As far as soda goes....I am a ex-diet pepsi addict.... I have a sip every once in a while, my surgeon says soda is a big NO-NO.

I can do popcorn... The problem is that it's a slider food. You have to be careful with it. It's been 7 months since my surgery and 110 lbs lost...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
