Drinking While Eating

Recommended Posts

I'm only 12 days out and I'm having SUCH a struggle with not drinking while I eat. I'm still on the full liquid diet and trying to abide by the rule bug I just can NOT do it. I'm so worried I'll stretch my pouch. Anyone else have this issue?? I'm also soooooo thirsty all the time!?

I am the same way.. It's so hard to not drink while you eat.. I am almost a month out from surgery. What I have noticed is if I drink I really can't eat much at all.. So frustrating

Every clinic is different at my clinic in Toronto I was told by my dr and nut no drinking 30 minutes before or after eating. And no drinking while eating they said it flushes the food down to quickly and your body doesn't have a chance to grab what it needs. It may also creat dumping. Drinking and eating fills your pouch so it's harder to get more food in. Every clinic is so different they need to have a standard rule book for this surgery to help us out. I do sip with my meals as some meals are dry and you need that extra Water to help.

I thought it was no drinking because of stretching? I didn't hear the one about food flushing down? I'd rather food flush before the stretching! Anyone else VERY thirsty all the time??

I was told it also flushes food out. I followed that rule up until about 4 months. Now I take an occasional sip when I eat, but I'm going to try to stop.

I was also told drinking while eating dilutes the food...flushes stomach...consume more calories. I am 7 months out and suck ice chips all day. Hard to get Water down feel full real quick and still feel thirsty.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
