Hello LBT,

I had my lap band done on Dec.14,06 i have lost 19lbs. I am still working on eat right. I still have problems in eating really slow. I join because i need some support to help me to eat the right foods and not the fatty foods. I feel that 19lbs is just not enough.

Does anyone know any sight that will give me advise on meals to help with my lap band?

I will be getting my first fill on Feb. 14,07 what a great Valentine gift I will have eating broth for dinner. But it is worth it.

I have only one problem right now i had this strange feeling today when i eate some ribs it kind felt like a heartburn but i kept burping and then some food came up. What can i do when that happens to me? I felt like i could not breathe or even try to burp.Any suggestions?

Thanks LBT for your helpful sight,

your new friend Cely

Hi Cely, welcome to the forum. I am the husband of the banded one, but I'm the one that does the posting. Congratulations on getting banded and on your weight loss. 19 lbs is fantastic!!! And that is without even being filled. Imagine how it will be after you hit that sweet spot. As for the heartburn and burping, a couple of things come to mind. First, my wife was advised not to eat beef...well...don't eat steak. It is stringy and some people have trouble getting it thru the stoma. The not being able to breath or burp thing sounds to me like my wife's signal that YOU'RE FULL ! With you band you have to relearn a few things and one of the biggest things is "listening" to your body. When a little bit of your food came back up, that could have been a lot of things. You ate too much, too fast, too spicy, too big a bite. So s-l-o-w down and enjoy your food, chew it till it doesn't have any "lumps". As far as helping with your meals, check out www.FitDay.com And keep coming back to LBT, ask questions, do research.

Hi Cely - welcome. I live in Wylie, so we are neighbors! :) Congrats on getting banded and you are doing great. Who was your doctor? Randy gave some great info.

Cely,

The side effects you are experiencing are because you are eating too fast and not chewing your food enough. You have to take really small bites and chew, chew chew. The burping up food is called pbing (productive burping). This normally happens when you are eating to fast. Slow down and you should be fine. Remember to chew each bite 20 to 30 times.

I'm not a doctor so this is not professional advise but I have read about this previosly.

Good luck to you!!!

Cely, you listen to OUSooner, he's a weight losing machine. At the rate he's going, he's going to disappear here in about 5 months....LOL But I'm sure if you have a question, he can put your mind at ease.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
