Thanksgiving Disapointment

Recommended Posts

I felt so good about preparing the Thanksgiving dinner. Made the whole traditional meal for 4 of us. My daughter was doing a couple of stops and the one before home was 2 1/2 hr behind. She promised not to eat much.

Well by the time I got dinner on the table it was 8 pm. LONG day.

As promised she and her boyfriend came hungry.

I am 5 weeks out from RNY. I was able to avoid nibbling as I cooked. And was hungry when I sat down even though I had done a Protein Shake when I knew they were delayed.

I used a smaller plate and took a table spoon of the food i thought I could tolerate.

Took 1 bite acorn squash and 1 bite of turkey. And I was done- something got stuck.Pain and a watering mouth.

I just sat there and waited and waited , but it didnt pass. Had to excuse myself from the table.

When I came back I just sat and visited everyone looking at my small plate.

Good news is we have lots of leftovers after sending some with the BF. Ill grind up some of the turkey today and make a turkey salad and enjoy it that way.

Turkey is very hard to eat. Everytime I eat it no matter how moist it gets stuck. I am going to cut it baby fine and eat in gravy. If it sticks again I'm swearing off turkey

My Thanksgiving dinner was about the same. I was not able to eat the turkey, and the debunked egg tasted terrible. Had a little dressing and taters. The pumpkin pie even tasted terrible. They were right when they said your taste buds change. ( we ate at noon)

I too started grinding the turkey up yesterday for turkey salad sandwiches. Had a small sandwich for dinner and it was the high light if the day.

This was a very hard thanksgiving for me too! I'm 5 months out and had to spend time in between two families! That means try to avoid 10 cakes and 6 pies. Yeah... I didn't know how to Celebrate without feeling like super full and sick like everyone else.

I enjoy thanks giving. Ate a little of everything & was happy. Even had a tiny piece of sugar free apple pie.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
