I am thankful for my surgery, it has not always been easy over the past 5 months but, very worth it! Everyone use what you have learned to get you through the day. Take things you know you can eat, measure the amounts and enjoy the family and friends company! Be happy!

I am very thankful for being healthy post op and other than a few ulcers I feel pretty swell.

I think I'm going to be a little bad today since it's a holiday. I want a small bite of mashed potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes, and cranberries. I know some people are approved for starches but my surgeon says no. I just want enough to taste it. Hopefully I won't be sick. On Halloween I had .25 of a fun size almond joy and .25 of a Reese's cup and I was okay and didn't want to cry anymore lol. Obviously candy isn't even an option for the other 364 days a year. I think if you give yourself a little treat on special occasions is okay as long as you don't splurge and are okay the rest of the time. I think it keeps people from eating badly often. Idk maybe it's just me.

Happy turkey day everyone!

I think you'll be fine. Try getting some kind of exercise in today... That'll definitely make you feel better about it!

My main meal was just Protein and veg - (turkey, of course, and brussels sprouts). I had a spoonful each (like, regular table teaspoon) of mashed potatoes and stuffing (because they are my FAV) only after I finished my meal, just enough to get a taste. Worked really well! I was more than satisfied with everything, and I know what I ate wasn't bad at all.

I was sad about skipping the eggnog, though... but I treated myself to diet cranberry juice instead.

I think the key is PLAN AHEAD most of all. Measure out your portions, eat SLOW, and remember that moderation is also a great key.

Bleck so I went a little overboard and ended up having 2 different meals consisting mostly of potatoes, sweet potatoes and stuffing. Ended up getting a Migraine which I feel HAS to be a result of my bad eating, took a nap and when I woke up I generally felt like shit and still do. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

Had a good dinner. Had some turkey. Had some French green Beans. Some mashed potatoes. Some sugar free strawberry Jello with pineapple and cream cheese. I really wanted some stuffing. I am 3 weeks out and had such a tiny amount of food but it was good!

I had a little bit of mashed potatoes, little bit of squash, green Beans, and a deviled egg. I can't have any meats yet or breads. I didn't mind not having the other foods , the spoonfuls of the foods I listed completely filled me up. It was a great feeling that I could easily say NO to all that food!

Don't beat yourself up.... Work out extra hard tomorrow to compensate for it.

I took and pureed more or less some Turkey then added a tablespoon of gravy and then mashed potatoes. pretty good mixture lol. I feel I didn't miss out on Thanksgiving at all. and I did the black Friday thing and stood for 3 hours and definitely worked off any calories I consumed today

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
