When Can I Go Back To Work

Recommended Posts

My surgery is on Dec 4th and I'm wondering if it's possible that I can go back to work on the 17th. Is that to soon? I basically sit at a desk all day, but do have to ability to get up and move around when need be. My first post op appointment is the 14th so I guess I'll know if my doc will allow me to go back.

Thanks

John

Should be fine if desk bound. I work in shipping in a warehouse so I had to wait four weeks. Good luck!

Everyone is different I went back to work at one month post. But I know I could have went back to my desk job at 2 weeks maybe even 1, but I was off during the summer and enjoyed the time with my daughter that I never have :)

I had surgery on a Monday (April 9) and went back to work the following Monday, so I was off one week. I have a desk job, I went to work in the a.m. and then worked from home in the afternoon. I was very lucky that I was able to do that with my job. I did not want to be on disability because they do not pay your full salary. Everyone is different, I had no complications and felt pretty good.

I am wondering the same thing. I have been saying that I want to stay out for 4 weeks but then I think about it and know that maybe after 1-2 weeks I could go back to work. I sit at a desk most of the day and if something needs done that is heavy or anything I know that I have plenty of people to help. It will be interesting just how long I can stand being away from work and how I will feel then. Congrats on your date and I wish a speedy recovery :)

I'm planning for 4 weeks out. My doc recommends that amount of time to fully adjust to new lifestyle. I have to go to a 1 day seminar 9 days after surgery but will still be on liquids. I also will have to coordinate a work project due Dec 21 while I'm out. I have the sick time so I'm gonna use it plus I will get through Christmas too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
