Help I am nervous they will flunk me and I really need this!

they pretty much asked my about my life. who I have for support for my surgery. the people in my life that I told and didn't tell and why I didn't tell them. asked about my previous diets and weight loss. working out. how my diet is going. I have never seen anyone like this before and I hate talking to people. it went very well. I don't know what would make you fail.

I had to go through a psych eval too.. They just want to make sure you're mentally prepared & that no one is forcing you to do the surgery.

Thank you ladies. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row to avoid wasting time. That way I don't have to be denied and appeal my insurance company.

I'm praying I can have this done right around Xmas or near the beginning of the year.

Asked me the reason for having surgery. How would I react to negative comments about my weight loss, (some people may not like me losing a lot of weight) asked about my marriage, spouses opinion of surgery, if I had support from my family. Would I have help following the surgery, did I suffer from depression, was I committed to the lifestyle change, etc......

Asked about parents, childhood & then I had to do a questionnaire. Questions were silly to me. Some were trying to see if I had anorexia - obviously not! I do know of some that failed & needed more counseling but they eventually were ok'd after further visits & have had surgery.

During the psyc. eval. they want to make sure that you understand the WHOLE surgery and what your expitations are. Also to make sure you are doing this on your own free will and that no one is forcing you like you husband or BF. And that you understand that the surgery is a tool etc. etc. I asked my evaluator who were the people that she failed... she said that she failed people that came in that said they were doing it because of a spouce or BF that wants them skinny, she also failed a 19 year old boy who his Mom called him fat and lazy = sad.

Mine was 5 different written and computerized tests that were so ridiculous, but whatever it took. He also asked questions like the above posts. I passed. You'll do fine.

Wellllll I don't think I exactly passed, but didn't fail. Questions both verbal and took a test. And then he decided after compiling all the info that I should see the counselor at the barbaric center for three months. I think it was because I am a revision from lap band to RNY. He wanted to make sure I could succeed. At the time I felt like he was on a power trip and did it just cause he could. You know like you can't possibly pass everybody so I was the one to prove his worth on. But I did it, didn't like it, didn't feel like it helped anything, but jumped through them hoops. And was approved.

They're assessing for a whole bunch of things...mostly unmanaged psychiatric conditions that could exacerbate after a major surgery. If you do have any psychiatric conditions, be honest about them. There's no sense in lying. It's really to assess your overall level of mental functioning and capacity. You should be fine :)

I have a major anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder. I take medication and see a therapist. I passed the psych test without a problem.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
