Recommended Posts

I am 7 days post op. I am having trouble taking pills. I grind them up but they are si bitter it gags me. I mix them eith whupped cream and no help. Today I ground them and mixed in juice. Ugh...I'm thinking of just stopping. Just the metformin and bumetanide. Also tried applesauce....still gag.

I'm 6 weeks out & STILL have trouble with my daily meds. If swallowed they end up hurting & feeling stuck. The alternative of crushing them up is just nauseating! Wish there was an easy fix.

My dosage was 20mg so i had the pharmacist give me 2 10mg pills instead. Might not be avail. For everything. Talk to your pharmacist, he/she should be a great resource!

Many med but not all can also come in liquid form. Talk to your doctor about changing your prescriptions. While Im now off all my med, this was a normal part of my postop to switch the med over.

Before you break them, check that they are not extended release.

Do the painkillers come in liquid form? Crushed vicodin would taste horrendous with all the tylonol in it =/

Someone on here mentioned mixing crushed meds in sugar free chocolate Syrup. I'm trying this morning. Let you know how it goes.

I'm still pre-op, but when I was on Metformin before, I gagged a lot when I had to take it. Especially if I hadn't had enough to eat before. I was on it for PCOS. I'd still talk to your doctor though, before you stop it. You might not be needing very soon anyway.

Snow25 ...I went home with the same liquid medication. It helped alot & was so easy to get down. The pills are a nightmare.

I take levothyroxine daily and it is a tiny pill. Even that is a bit difficult and I only cut it in two. I can't imagine having to crush a bunch pills.< /p>

@ Lovealways, yes as a matter of fact, vicodine does come in liquid form. They gave it to me when I came home from the hospital after my surgery.

Yes it does...I got it once as an anti-tussive- as cough Syrup. It works extremely well for that.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
