Diabetics On Liquid Diet?

Recommended Posts

well I am not on the pump, but i do take u500r (comentrated insulin) and I was so worried about going low I erred on the side of not taking as much as I should have, so day of surgery my blood sugar was too high (I knew it was) so they canceled the surgery. SO please call your ENDO now and see what they can work out for you so that you don't get too high or too low. Cause me being my own doc sure didn't work out for me. lol. It was pretty devastating waiting to be wheeled back and the doc come in and say your sugars are too high and you won't heal properly and he just didn't feel right operating. So I am scheduled for Dec. 5. But still have the problem with high and low. It may be something that your endo would want you off the pump and on shots or something. I don't know but call. Wishing you the best, And you really wonder how in the world drinking liquids can still give you a 300 blood sugar. I think air raises mine.

I'm also a diabetic but taking oral medications and injections if necessary. So far I haven't needed any shots for a while. We were told today at our class to test 4 times a day while preop diet is followed and if it stays too low to contact our PCP. We'll see what happens..........I hope you can get yours figured out. Would sure hate to see you postponed once again. Stay positive, this to shall pass!

I was on a pump. 2 months before surgery I was on a modified liquid diet which I adjusted my pump to my cal/sugar intake 1 month prior to surgery on full liquids I went off my pump completely and went on injectable once per day depending on my fasting bg I did have times of lows usually at night or if I forgot to eat lunch I carried gluco tabs and when I'd feel low I'd just check my bg and pop a tab and re check in 15 mins.

surgery 10/17/12 pre op wt 215 surgery wt 201 current 181
