I Am Almost 6 Yrs Out But In Pre Op Because...

Recommended Posts

Hi all you beautiful, happy faces!

I just wanted to tell you guys I remember facing all of your fears and worries about whether you would get to eat again, etc. I would love to offer you my moral support! Your momentum at this moment in time is a life force. Don't doubt yourself. You are on the ride of your life - to health, happiness, STABILITY.

I am popping in to ask a favor - My surgery was Jan. 15, 2007 - I weighed in at 297 at 5'7 and only 25 years old. I got to my lowest in 2009 - 158. I wanted to get to 135 but never made it. Oddly, I could wear a size 6 comfortably. I re-gained to 170. Then I got pregnant - went up to 221 the day I gave birth. That was 9/11/11 - almost 14 months ago. I am down to 182 lbs. I dream of that 135 - DREAM - I want it, ladies. So I am reading my old info from my surgeon on the full liquid diet but the info seems outdated.

Can you guys let me know your various pre op diets - preferably one that is low-ish carbs and full liquids? May I join you for support - for complaining - for reaching out for help? Unfortunately this far out you do get hungry. I almost feel "pre-op" but perhaps some days on just liquids I can re-claim that pouch satiety. Some people say it is possible.

Thank you in advance and sending love and positive thoughts your way!

Thank you for responding! You are about to have your life rocked in the most wonderful possible way! Congratulations! My advice to you is to definitely set up good habits early on. And take care of yourself post op. Enjoy silly TV shows. Love yourself. Thanks for the pre op info - I am having my shake now - 2nd one of the day - not hungry!!

my two week pre op is a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and a lite dinner no starch, like a meat and non starchy vegetable (basically low carb) and then just Clear Liquids day before.

Amazing the journey you have had and we sure are glad to have you join us as you continue. You have knowledge that we all will need.

And you will get so much support here,

Welcome

These shakea really do work i was on it for 1 week preop and wound up losing 6lbs just by doing 2 Meal Replacements (shakes) healthy Snacks and a Protein focused meal.. good luck:)

Vicki, thank you for the welcome :) My absolute best advice to everyone would be to take the 2 chewable vitamins for adults everyday from the beginning. There are store brands that are generic chewable Centrums that I love. Then (especially women in their childbearing years), take a daily dose of Sundown Perfect Iron (Carbonyl Iron) with Vitamin C. I am telling you guys the budget way of doing it! Perhaps if I was early out, I would take the gastric bypass Vitamins. And your calcium citrate can be a large bottle of generic brand (again frugal method). I would spend my money on high quality Protein - and if I could do this over, I would do 100 or more grams a day of protein FROM THE BEGINNING. I struggle with protein deficiency - and I swell from it - which is so gross and unsightly. If I drink 100 grams of protein in shake form and then eat the rest of my protein cals, I am healthy and energetic. Also, walk from the start. You don't have to run marathons but just simple movement will help. The honeymoon is so easy and if you are like me, you coast through it. I dumped weight so fast and they didn't drill us on protein as much back in 2007. They just didn't know. But as the "guinea pigs" - they are learning from us. As a matter of fact, they knew nothing of the honeymoon period back then either - that magical 6 months. I had no idea if I worked my hardest at that time, I would have reached goal. Thank you all for the diet advice - I did great on shakes yesterday - but I was so hungry when I got home from work. I may have to do the protein meal at night. I am sure I will lose more slowly but it may keep me from binge eating from being overly hungry.
