New To All Of This! Excited And Scared At The Same Time.

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I have tried several diets and excercise all that have given me little to know success. I finally hit the highest weight that I have ever been and it was that moment that I realized I have to do something about it. So here is where I will begin my weight loss journey. I have had my initial consult, attended seminar had dietarty appt. Now I just have final wrap up appt and I will go over all of my blood test on that day also. I am very close to getting to surgery. All of this has scared me into reality, that this is really going to happen.I have been wanting this surgery for 5 years and now I am so ready for this. Can any of you please tell me your story's about recovering and what it was like immediately after surgery. That is what I am so worried about. I would love all of comments and experiences that you have had. I really appreciate any support that you guys could give me. I am planning on having RNY in the end of december or early January. I can't wait to look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks. :)

Aimee: hi and welcome!! This is the best place to be for info! I've been here since July and today is my big day! I would recommend watching the November and December surgery postings in the pre-op forum and the same ones in the post-op forums. You can literally "watch" all of us progress thru the process from the start. Great info and it helps with the nerves to know what to expect. You will also learn a lot the dr don't tell you. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask any question here. No one is judgmental and very helpful!!

I am 5 days post op and other than tenderness when getting up and down, it's all good. Only take the pain meds at night, because I have small children and dogs with insanely small bladders, to tend to in the night, so constantly up and down LOL When you read that it's a struggle to get in your 64oz of Fluid a day, that is no joke. I have sipped alllllll day and still only managed 34oz! I didn't walk the first night they wanted me too, the anesthesia just wrecked me bad. I literally could not stay awake at all. I slept the whole first day, then at 4 am the 2nd day, was up and walking the halls. Now at home, I have not been outside my home since I got back, but have not been sitting on my butt either....I have 3 small children to take care of, so I had to hit the ground running.

Pre-op sitting the the room where you get those fancy-dancy gowns, and then IV's, etc, answering the same questions to 20 different people, thats when I got terrified. It hit its peak when they wheeled me to the hallway outside the OR for more people to ask me the same damn questions LOL. I told them, you might wanna put that antianxiety med in the IV now, because I'm ready to get up and leave. 10 minutes later, they did, along with something else, wheeled me into OR and I was out! LOL Woke up in recovery feeling like I wanted to vomit. When that feeling went away, I was good to go. LOL

So far I feel that it wasn't real. That I have normal insides, just a little discomfort. Until that scale shows me some love.....

Man, that is the first real account of the actual surgery day process I have read. I am so nervous. Thank you for the real account. It's so huge and scary to me. I know it is done lots everyday, but I am so very nervous. It does help so I can visualize what the day will be like and maybe that will help some of the nerves.

Hey,

All you need to worry about is getting the sugery and moving on with your life! Remember, all pain passes after surgery. The first day I didn't really care about anything I was so out of it. The second day all I wanted was to take a bath. Third day all I want to do is go home. The drive was a bit crazy as I had so much gas...due to the surgery. It was a 6 hour drive home. Ouch! but as you can see I made it! With a few bumps in my road I am now about 4-5 weeks out. I will not say that it has been an easy road, but a road that I needed to travel no less. As you adjust physically, you also adjust mentally. It is different and a new way of life but you can do it! The rewards outway the the beginning steps. I started at 324 and at my last weigh in 2 weeks ago I was 280. None of my cloths fit and I am loving it. I believe this was a gift and that I could not do it any other way. Please get on Youtube hook up with a local support group, but most of all set a goal of not throwing up food! As my Doc said " if you are following the plan you will not get sick. I haven't gotten sick. Eat slowly, and chew, chew, chew. STOP before you feel full. When I say to myself "Just one more bite I STOP and put the spoon or fork down. Sip on Water and take the Vitamins. You'll be cool! I have to be honest the ride home was a bear and I said to my husband "What the f---! did I do! Mind you I hadn't had any of my normal meds like PROZAC so I was not normal. Each day gets better and better. Have fun with it and laugh at the changes in your body! I call myself the Jello woman and dance around the house. Way too much fun to be serious. It's all in the ATTITUDE! Good Luck to you, and if I can be of any help you know where to find me! Remember this too shall pass and when you are a few weeks down the road you will look back and it will bring you to tears ....of joy and greatfulness. Take care Dorian in NM

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
