Penni... totally understand your moment of frustration and I'm really glad you able to vent... let it go and let yourself see all of the wonderful positive changes... damn scales are nothin but trouble I tell ya! You and Lisa have made more positive changes than can be counted and I'm giving you both the prize bonk on the head!

Betty... The doc just called... confirming what the folks told me at the hospital.... so far everything looks normal... they are sending the films to him and he will call me in the morning with the next step. I told him that I was in a cold sweat after a short trip to the grocery store this afternoon from the pain... and that I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get back to my normal life.

Lisa... I'm gonna try the heating pad tonight. I have to be NPO after MN again... so it'll give me something to snuggle against when I wake up at 2 in the morning.

TTFN...

Darcy

My clothing was about 3 lbs, so my scale is 10 pounds different than Urgent Care. So, maybe I'm really skinnier than I think? Where are the scientists today? How can we figure out what we weigh?

Well this may not help...but I have a scale that has been calibrated with one of those doctor's scales in which you do the "sliding" thingy....you know the dreaded ones. I could bring it...however that doesn't help much because we won't know what your starting weight is. ... .... but if you want me to bring it... I will be more than happy to!!!

Thanks Karen, but Penni and I have each kept track on the same scale from the beginning, she on hers, and me on mine. We'd both like to know the truth though. However, I think if you move scales around too much it could mess up the calibration (that's so flipping funny since I don't even know what calibration means!)

Both of my doctors have the dreaded slidy-kinda scale, and each one shows me a 10 pound difference. So how do we know which one is right?

Hey everyone, this is the cutie pie Karen who saved my life... she's the little band fairy that POOFED into my life and told me and Chris about her band experience, so I followed her lead, and of to Mexico I went.

Hello all,

We got back at 3 a.m. Hubby had to drive all the way home because I couldn't stay awake. I don't think I get enough calories for that kind of energy.

I ate shrimp last night for dinner with only mild discomfort. I know, that's not exactly taking it slow, but I have been sooo hungry. It's not like my old hunger, though, but just a real desire to EAT something. So tired of liquids and softies. I am making progress. Still have something wrong, but hope it just gets better and better. "Spasms" seem to be better. I may go to see my PCP and try to find out if my esophagus might have been bruised during my moto wreck. I am feeling much better, though, especially psychologically, since I can eat some things now. :)

We went to SF to do a pre-op for DH to have his shriveled, stone-laden gallbladder removed. Very disappointed as the surgeon said his symptoms didn't match, so she ordered 3 more tests and told him, "You don't look like you're having any trouble eating." (In other words, You're FAT!) OMG ;) She had the manners of a surgeon! His local doc had said he was just to get the surgery set up, no questions asked. Ah well, more hurdles and more time in SF.

Darcy, so sorry you haven't found out anything yet. At this point, another day must feel like an eternity. Be sure you keep that 23 hour stay as an option. We don't want you passing out in the street! I hope the nap and the heating pad work.

OY...

Dr. Valledares called me lastnight... said he was going to talk to Dr. CHua and call me first thing this mornning... told me not to eat or drink anything after midnight just in case they would want to do some more testing.

Miss Betty you are such a sweetie for thinking of me! I finally called the office at 1pm and told them I was getting pretty darn thirsty and hungry... the person I tlaked to said she would call me right back... it is almost 2pm... I have a splitting headache... I'm thirsty and hungry and my stomach still hurts... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Okay... venting does help. If he doesn't call in the next 5 minutes I am going to drink Water and eat soup!

Becky... so glad you are able to eat some regular food and that you are feeling a bit better! Hopefully they will figure out what is going on soon or at the very least the pain/spasms will resolve with time. It's one thing to cut down on read food... it's another to have to give it up entirely... messes with a person's head!

Darcy (AKA hungry.. thirsty and frigging crabby)

Little Miss Darcy - Call them back right now! Tell them you need to know something or you are going to eat and drink. They sure do forget to call back alot. Honestly, I would pick up that phone and call.

Becky - I am glad you are feeling somewhat better. Hopefully it will all get better soon.

Let me know what the Doctor say Darcy when you call him right away:D

This might sound bad and selfish, but I finally feel like I'm not the only alien around here. I've been jumping through doctor's hoops and hitting brick walls since my original surgery back in May, and I still have no answers. I picked up a bottle of Cheetah this morning that I have to drink before my belly Cat Scan. I've had it before, it's quite tasty - NOT! Tomorrow I'll do the renal scan before the Cat Scan, then I'll wait around hoping I don't get a staff infection till I see the surgeon at the end of the month.

Does anyone know what a staff infection is? Would that be something that would make the incision red and inflamed first, or would I drop dead and find out when I got to the other side? The incision is not hot, red or infected, but I have a supply of antibiotics on hand just in case.

Lisa - Hopefully this time they can figure out what is going on with you! I can only tell you this, I had a staff infection in my elbow one time. I barely brushed it against the wall at college, and it got huge, and it was hot, and it throbbed. I would imagine it is a germ that gets inside and sets it up. Usually antibiotics cures it. Hope that helps a little, but I know there are some of the nurses here that can explain it much better than me.

Penni,

Do you weigh yourself at the same time every day? I heard we should weigh ourselves in the morning before showering and after going to the restroom.

Hi Veronica I know your post was directed to Penni and I'm sure she wil lreply. I only weigh myself once a week. I see better results this way. When I weighed myself everyday in the beginning and I did not see a loss I would just get discouraged and frustrated. Since only weighing once I week I have lost 21 lbs in the last 2 months. I also weigh first thing in the morning after I go Pee and in my underware only. I started a weekly challenge here in a post in July for all of us who are obsessed with getting on the scale everyday to challenge anyone to just weigh once a week. I have been comitted to it ever since . I weigh every Monday. I wont be able to meet you in TJ on the 16th for your fill but you can call me. SInce I'm going to Vegas this weekend to meet everyone it will be difficult to get another Saturday off from work. I hope everything goes great for you.

Lisa... try this link it will tell you more about staph infections. I hope they are able to get to the bottom of your alien invasion! It's time for you to have your belly all to yourself.

The surgeon called to tell me... they are having puter problems and as soon as they are able to view the films... they will call me back... he told me I could have Water. yay. I am so nauseated from hunger... water was nice... but it is almost fricking 4pm and as I told Penny... I could gnaw my right arm off at this point! Oh... an making dinner really helped... I can smell it cooking in the oven and I've tucked a drool cloth under my chin.

I couldn't feel more sorry for myself... really.

Darcy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
