I'm not sure I understand your question, where would your wife be going with you?

In general, the more involved the spouse can be, the better. At least in my experience.

I think it would be nice for both of you if she went with you.

lisah25, Dr. K is in Colorado. That is why he is asking this.

Hi terry, If you mean should your wife go with you to Denver, yes, she should. It's possible to be alone when you do the surgery. Some do it. For a while I thought I might need to go alone. But my wife was able to come with me and I am very glad she did. Some people are fortunate and recover almost immediately from the surgery. Others take longer. If you go alone you are gambling that you'll be one of those who can recover quickly and get home. But if it turns out you are not one of the fast healers, then what? I recommend bringing someone.

And by the way, Dr. Kirshenbaum requires that you bring someone so that you are not alone for the first 24 hours after the anesthesia. You can make arrangements to come alone, but if you do you must stay overnight in the hospital, which is an exta $500.

I agree, it would be great to have her go.

I was banded by Dr. K and yes, my husband and my 14 month old daughter, came along. I recovered rather quickly, but it was really nice to have him there to help me out that first day. (that, and I had someone to whine to.. tee hee )

Not only is my wife coming to the hospital with me, but she is also coming to the preband class tomorow. SHe is the one that cooks our meals and this is the training that will teach us how to eat after the band. The more involved the better from what I have seen so far

Chris

My husband went to the seminar with me and I think it helped both of us. I think he got a good understanding about it and it answered both of our questions. Good luck to you and your wife on your journey!

Hey Terry R ,

I just had my banding last Wed. in Mexico, my wife came along with me and I thought it was very nice to have her there. We had a great time together, we went shopping and had a great Mexican dinner before the surgery..So yes, take her !! Its nice to have someone there if you can.

P.S at the hospital in TJ Mexico there was no extra charge for my wife to stay(two nights), or at the hotel they put us up at the day after surgery..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
