Recommended Posts

I had my first appointment today.

Weight 249 lbs

5 ft 3 inches

BMI 44

Was thinking gastric lap band until the doctors told me that out of 10 band procedures 3 are new and 7 are removals. Do I am going with RNY! Starting my diet tracking in the morning and getting on the treadmill. So excited for this to begin a healthier new life for me! So inspired by all of the success stories on here!!

Congrats! I was thinking the band at 1st also, but after going to the orientation I learned the failure rate of the band is pretty high. I had RNY 10/29. Down 28lbs! Feeling better every day! Good luck with everything!

I was thinking of the band too but the failure rate and the port was not something I could deal with. Also I want the fear of dumping. Sad but true. I'm a sweet nut! Good luck and welcome.

Thanks to you all!! Trying to adjust to a 1200 cal diet so far so good. I am having the hardest time so far with not drinking 30 min before or after or during meals!!

1200 calories is not bad. It depends on what you eat. I used to eat only 600 calories and was full. I ate a lot of lean meats and veggies. So my calories came from my starch.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
