Abdominal Swelling

Recommended Posts

I had my RNY on 11/5 and after a rough start things are now going well. However,my lower abdomen, especially the area of my left "love handle" is very swollen still. It's uncomfortable and makes it awful to try wear jeans or slacks. How long does it usually take for this to resolve? Also, I am still having to sleep in a reclining chair because it is uncomfortable to lay down, even with lots of pillows. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes... I'm playing musical couch... Lol... The swelling is going down slowly though. Talk to you Dr about it.

Is it hard, red, or warm? I had an incision infection on my left side that I needed medical attention to take care of. Make sure you do not have a fever

I slept in a recliner for over a month but, like Lebim I ended up with an incision infection that was too uncomfortable to lay flat with. I wore sweatpants most of my recovery because the incision areas were pretty sore especially the infected one. You don't necessarily have to have a fever for an infection in an incision spot. I never had a fever but, I had one heck of an infection that had to be reopened in the doctors office and packed daily by a visiting nurse. Not saying that's what you have...but do pay attention for signs though.

Anyway...you're still not that far out from your surgery so sleeping in the recliner if it makes it so you can rest....keep doing it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
