Ok, I was told that I could keep my Mirena in for surgery, which went well. The problem is that I am 1 month out and I've had my cycle 3 times including coming home from surgery. The third one was really BAD! Is anyone else experiencing any Mirena issues?

I’m still pre-op - BUT - when I take blood thinners (including over the counter for headache meds) I have break through bleeding...

I’m interested in seeing what happens to you - i’m right behind you.

I was on the pill and my period started again the day after surgery and about every 2 weeks after. It started to get back to normal after 2 or 3 months.

I wasn't on anything before surgery. I hadn't had my period in over a year. I started my first cycle 3 days post op lasted for about 6 days and wasn't to bad. I went on the orthoevra patch and then a week later during gallbladder surgery the docs took off my patch and I have been on for 10 days and its horrible! I was wondering if the blood thinners they had me on are contributing to the heavy flow or is it happening bc I hadn't had a cycle in so long. Either way this crazy cycle is annoying!!!

Hey Shastadaisy, I am on my cycle one again! This time it's the normal cycle that I have. I'm hoping that this gets better in a couple of months!

Hey Thrisha, I'm hoping that you've went off by now! Lol I have no idea if the blood thinners have anything to do with everything, but I'm gonna research it and see. Maybe this is the just starting me all over again, who knows :( Just trying to wait and see.

I have roscea and my dermatologist said mirena is horrible for people with any skin conditions. I think I'm going to try the patch. I also heard it makes your weight loss slow down. I think I will get it when I'm close to my weight goals.

Here's my story in short version:

I had mirena placed 8/2010. RNY surgery 7/30/12. Strings were cut too short so I basically could never feel if I had my mirena in place or not. Never had a period until surgery day. then from there had it monthly. 9/28/12 had my physical and my doc said she could still see the strings. 10/1 I start my period and still on it til 10/31 so went to my GYN. GYN told me that my IUD was not in there anymore. I had expelled it most likely along with some major blood clots I was having. I had another IUD placed but now I don't trust it.

I was told that hormonal changes with weight loss can cause different types of issues. So, in short words, I wouldn't trust any birth control method while losing weight.

I asked my Dr about an IUD for after surgery but he measured my uterus and said it's too short because i've never had a baby (which is usually the case). He said if i were to have it put in, my body would expel it. He strongly encouraged me to consider the NuvaRing. I was on the pill for 15 years and haven't had a "regular" period since i went off the pill a month pre-op.

I've heard this so many times! Body expelling IUD after surgery. Are you just using condoms?

I had another IUD placed and using condoms as well. Can't trust a single method now!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
