Hi. I'm 5 days post op. and expected sugars to stay under 150's. I'm staying a little over that and was wondering from other type2's if that is maybe from meds or the surgery. It if I am an unlucky one who didn't get the great numbers post op. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not diabetic but I was told not to have more than 5 grams of sugar per serving.

I’m a dawn riser -- with seriously high numbers when I fast - I’d imagine I’ll be right there with you too...

did they keep you on anything?

No. I only got a few shots of insulin in hospital. No meds or anything. I am a dawn riser too. High AM numbers was my usual. But with everything being different I am trying to wrap my head around what to expect with my BS levels. Probably too soon to tell.

I will be very interested in seeing how you go with this. 80% of the reason I am having this surgery is due to the diabetes. I am so insulin resistant and they just keep pumping me fuller and fuller with it and it causes weight gain and inflamation in every part of my body. Somedays I can't life my hands above my heard to blow dry my hair,

Wising you the very best and hoping so much this is the answer to oru diabetes problems. or that at least the need for insulin is lessened.

That is great Virgie. I hope to find out I will be like that too soon. I know 150-175 are way better than what I had but still hoping for better numbers. This was main component if my decision for RNY instead if sleeve.

It should get much better. I am type 1 and while I'll always be on insulin....it has definitely helped my blood sugar stay in control. That never happened prior to surgery!

this is the #1 reason I will be most likely rny - 89% remission rate - we will always “be” diabetic - but we can certainly put it in remission...which is my prayer.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
