Hey everyone! I was really excited when I found this app! All of your words and ideas have bee really helpful.

I am getting ready to have my surgery in january and I'm beyod excited. This will be the second biggest change of my life (the first being my son). i am just concerned because I am a single mother with severe depression and PTSD and I wanted opinions from other moms and how they coped after having surgery (emotionally wise). Everyone is kind of skeptical of the surgery and I am trying to ignore all the negative feedback but im the type of person who takes things completely person an need to please all. I can use all the guidence I can get.

Thank you and God bless

Support can help you get through this. The surgery has some amazing results and changes in store for you. This group is amazing. Just remember, this walk is a journey, one step at a time.

I'm sorry about the emotional turmoil you are experiencing. I'm not a mom but I have personal experience with these kinds of issues. And honestly, the only way forward is counseling (for depression, PTSD), medication if necessary, and support groups for WLS patients. I spent so much of the time - the years - that I was severely depressed thinking something external would save me. A boyfriend, getting in to a certain college, etc. Even when my circumstances changed, and I had all those things, I still couldn't escape myself. You have to decide to fight for yourself, and this surgery is a good step toward that, but definitely, definitely, definitely take an hour each week (you CAN make time) to go to counseling or a support group, hopefully two or three hours for both! You deserve and need that kind of support. Good luck on your journey and we're all with you :)

I too have PTSD as well as depression and social anxiety disorder. I am also Bipolar w/ schizophrenic tendencies. For the most part since my surgery things have improved. At times I will become extremely agitated and that's when I realize I need to eat. Counseling is the only treatment for PTSD. I take Effexor for the depression, anxiety, bipolar. At first my symptoms were way out of whack but as my hormones regulate I am doing better. The more I lose the more I feel happy but, exercise is key! If I don't get my daily dose of endorphins I feel down.

I'm not a. Mom but I do have PTSD and major depression....I had my surg 10/19/12. I can tell you that your illness won't go away but the surgery gives you hope. I'm off my blood press meds and diabetes meds... That in itself has put a smile on a hopeless situation. I stay in treatment. And take it one moment at a time. No regrets.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
