I'm so in the same boat. Onto week 4 of my 6 week Optifast diet... But it's not so bad now. The coffee and banana flavour shakes are awesome blended with ice, and really filling. I would not recommend the vege Soup... It leaves it's smell on anything you use for it- really off putting. Haven't tried the chicken Soup but apparently it's pretty good.

I am also petrified the surgeon will say no... It's terrifying. He hasn't given me a number, but the nut said about 15kg to lose. On track having lost 8kg so far at the midway point. But it's hard not to get complacent...

Ok I am a nurse and my doc wanted me to lose 35-40 lbs pre op but. Went crazy at first and gained wt so he made me do 2 weeks of Optifast. I actually chose to do an extra week so I could achieve the wt loss. I purchased the choc ready to use, chicken Soup and tomatoe soup plus the bars choc, berry and choc Peanut Butter. I also interjected Unjury Protein Powder to the evening shake to help the taste( I had one shipment of optifast shakes fall through so I was short a weeks worth). I also decided to google liver shrinking diet and it was basically low carb meat and veggies for carbs kinda like our post op diet really. So encorporated my first weekend 2 meat and veggie meals with shakes for Breakfast and lunch. My final week was pure optifast and achieved the 30 lb wt loss and the liver shrinking.

I think the extended time you are on the optifast is a bit excessive but each doctor has their own requirements. So many people do not even do any optifast.

It's up to you to decide whats right for you.

Wow thank you! I am struggling and some people make me feel bad or I let them. I assume if I stay away from crap I should be good. Would you say if I lose weight I am achieving liver shrinkage? I googled Ohio state med Center and their diet is high Protein low carb...I'm gonna do my very best but I believe a slice of chicken and cheese can't be that bad. Thank you again for your time

cheese can be quite high fat though, so watch that.

4 weeks of liquid only? I'm assuming Optifast are shakes. I really don't think I could do that! Bless your heart!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
