Someone Said To Me...

Uh I would have been thrilled to hear that. I think you're being way too sensitive. We all had this surgery to lose 100+ lbs, obviously you were pretty big if youre on here, it's a good thing.

Actually..he was outside smoking a cigarette' date=' so I was rather catty and reminded him of his heart problem and a co-worker who died of lung cancer last year at this time...I was bad, lol![/quote']

Wow. So someone paid you a compliment and you responded by giving them shit about their addiction like people gave you shit about food and topped it off by bringing up a tragedy to hurt someone else. Cool.

You know, its funny. I don't find your comment very supportive. He was not being supportive, or even kind. I got ticked. And yes, I am human. I have feelings, and sometimes comments don't roll off my back. Most tell me how good I look. For him it was the pot calling the kettle black. If my comments make him make another choice its a bonus. I don't want to see another employee die the same way my friend did.

Someone telling you that you once weighed a ton is no compliment no matter how you interpret it.

That's because my comment wasn't supportive, I find what you did to be completely uncalled for and rude.

Your comment is not going to make him stop smoking the same way people calling you fat didn't make you stop eating. We all have battles we need to fight and you lashing out on a guy who recognized your accomplishments is, quite plainly, a pretty bitchy thing to do.

He could have said you didn't lose much weight, would that have been better?

And since a ton is 2,204.6lbs, i don't think he meant that literally. clearly it's a common coloclialism. if anything he's saying you lost a lot of weight, which is a compliment. Sorry if you think you didn't lose a lot of weight, since that's why people have this surgery in the first place.

Sometimes people's words can come out wrong and seem insensitive. Someone asked me the other day how much I'd lost. I told them 110 lbs. They said, "Wow! I don't remember you being that huge! You lost like a whole person!" I stood there for a minute and thought hmmmm...I wouldn't have said it like they did, but it's the truth. So I gladly accepted that comment and replied, "Yes, I did and I'm proud of it!" I told them thanks for noticing my hard work, I held my head high and went and bought myself a new dress! (A size smaller!!!) so, I want to congratulate you on your weight loss and say keep up the good work!!!! And take those comments and hold your head up and know others are seeing your hard work too!! Best of luck to you!!! ;)

I know I'm going to be sensitive to comments when I've lost this weight. I know how being fat has made people treat me unfairly and often unkindly. I know I may carry some of this bitterness with me into my new life, but I am going to try my damnedest not to exact revenge or be snarky with every perceived insensitive comment.

I've lost a "ton" of weight before, and have had people tell me that I don't look like the same person. And these are people in weight watchers, so should be sensitive. The nicest thing I ever heard, which made me feel fantastic, was, "wow, I can really see you now!".

So if people say slightly insensitive things to me this time, I think that's what I'll hang onto. That it's easier for them to see me now, and they like what they see.

It's a compliment, life's too short to be offended all the time. Take the compliment and let it roll off your shoulders.

I wish so Much someone would notice my weight loss. No one says anything! I wish someone would make a comment like that to me. He was trying to give you a compliment ad you should be proud to have lost so much weight!!

Seriously. I've had one of my customers ask me if they could give me some dieting books. For real. I've had somone tell me they were embarrassed to be seen with me. That my face looked like a donut!! Now that's an insult.

I know you feel probably a little self conscious now? Maybe trying to adjust? Or maybe this guy is a douche. But I'm proud of you for losing your weight- and you know what. I bet you were beautiful before too.

I'm mad if they don't say something and mad if they do. The best thing they can say is "You look good." But most people just don't know what to say.

Keep going. You're doing great.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
