I'm currently on the nicoderm patch, step 2. My surgeon and I spoke about it and I am just not going to use the patch anymore after surgery on Tuesday. The pain medicine, etc. will hopefully help me through the final withdrawals so I will be done!

I had my last smoke the night before surgery. My surgeon wanted me to quit 2 wks prior to surgery but I knew I could not do it. So I had my last smoke about 8 pm. and said good bye to smoking. I'm 7 months post op and I do miss it at times but I can now run longer distances, and my breathing is no longer labored due to the weight and smoking... I feel much better as a non-smoker !!!

Hello. One of the tips I used I got from a friend when I quit and it helped. Thru some of the worst cravings, I would just stop and tell myself, "Sooner or later, this craving will be over!" Then I would keep myself busy and then realize, hey, I didn't think about a cigarette for such and such amount of time. I don't know if you know this, but the nicotine is out of your system in 3 to 5 days. Everything after that is habit. I also did all the old tricks when I quit. Gum, Lolly Pops, Cinnamin Sticks. They all seemed to help. I quit cold turkey too. It was the only thing that worked. But really telling yourself this horrible withdrawl will be over soon, really helped me. On a side note. I quit smoking cold turkey for 8 years after several tried attempts. I went back and smoked again for another two. Please, if you quit, don't EVER go back because it's even harder to quit long term the second time around. For me it was anyways. I wish you all the luck in the world and I know you can do it! Fell free to contact me if you need to talk. I don't know where you live, but, some states have free quit lines and have wonderful programs to help you. Try them, they really do help also. To talk to someone you don't know, that's not involved with you personally, can sometimes give fantastic advice on quitting. I hope this helped.

I used the ecig "finity" from Walgreens (my fav brand) and after month or so it made me sick one night and I just didn't want it anymore. Without the patch and ecig I would have never been successful

I just quit cold turkey, it was during one of my "sinus infection" times, I was tired of being sick. So I just threw my pack away and haven't had one since and it will be 3 years in March. I was going to do the patch, but my insurance didn't pay, and I said for $150+ a month, I can do it my self!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
