Hi everyone... I have to confess I've been reading the forum for months but haven't joined... I have a surgery date of 12-10-12 and I'm scared very very scared I'm scared I won't lose enough pre op weight (supposed to lose 37 lbs and so far have gained 3)... Will they cancel my surgery? I have a preop class and appt this thurs the 15th and I'm worried they will postpone me has anyone ever had that happen?

Hi Larry welcome to the group glad you finally said hi to us ..Not sure if the would cancel or not where i went i don't think they would as far as being scared everyone is i think it is normal i am 2.5 months out and only got sick twice with something that didn't agree with my pouch. Try doing some Protein Shakes now as Meal Replacements maybe that will help lose some of the weight they want you to..my name is Don feel free to add me if you would like

Welcome and good Idea about starting the shakes, I would say to try to get sample sizes, not big tubs. because if you don't like them you are stuck with and expensive tub of yuck. Everybody seems to like different ones. I would try to get sample sizes of as many as you can. If you have a Vitamin Shoppe close to you they have several samples. UNJURY.com sales individual sizes to try out, Good luck and glad you joined in.

I love Syntrax - it’s low in carbs - zero sugar - and mixes easily with Water - flavors like koolaid - I give it two thumbs up.

Some of the flavors are sold in sample packs - try before you buy - AND - try your Vitamin Store - if you have that chain where you live

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
