Hey all- I just need to know someone else has been here. I'm 5 weeks post op tomorrow, am down 29 pounds and feeling miserable today. I had a rough weekend too with nausea. Today I've eaten an egg with cheese and broccoli cheese Soup. I feel like I could vomit at any time. I've gotten behind in my fluids/protein this week and had big plans to do well today. I've gotten in about 30 g of Protein and 3 cups of Water. I'm trying so hard to sip, but I get nauseated each time.m just frustrated. Other than anti nausea meds, how have you handled feelings like this?

Just to head off at the pass, the food I'm eating has been approved by my nut, and I haven't had issues with that food so far... Also I'm beating myself up for not exercising- I'm working full time again at a stressful job, so I feel like all I can do when I'm home is crash. Soo not good for the mood! :(

hey stephanie - at 5 weeks it was rough for me as well. I can tell you that getting fluids in is tough and my pouch hurt as well when I drank the Water. But I kept drinking anyway...you just have to. Eventually your pouch will give in and you will be able to drink with no issues or pain. It's very important to make sure you get in as much as you can. I can't say I got in all 64 ounces myself and still can't get all that in all the time but, I do sip all day long. It really does help you feel better too. As far as eating.....it's actually harder to eat too if you're dehydrated. It all revolves around staying hydrated. I highly recommend trying different temperatures of your fluids, sometimes that's what it takes. I also had to try different flavorings etc, until I found what would sit right. Keep pushing yourself to drink, you can do it and it will get better :)

Thinking of you

OH and stress will play a BIG part in how your pouch feels. I know all too well what stress does to eating and drinking. I have been practicing Reiki, meditation and playing soothing music while at work. They all tend to help me relax. You need to find what works for you and take the time to do it. It's not easy, I know that first hand...but I've been trying to put myself and health first for the first time in my life. Work will always be work.....as I've once read.....On your deathbed you won't be saying Gee if I only worked harder and longer, you're going to say....I wish I took the time to (insert).

One day at a time, one issue at a time and remember to take time for you :)

Thanks ladies for your support. I tried some hot tea after I made this post and it did help a little. I'm trying very hard to get all of my fluids and Protein in but I've quit beating myself up over it. And I do need to make this about me. I ended up taking Thursday off from work to refocus and gather some strength. I'm so glad I did. My job is a passion of mine, but it's not the only passion I have. Thank you thank you thank you!

st.phanie sounds like you might be getting a handle on this, I am so glad. Good for you for taking a day for yourself. I hope this weekend you can take care of you too. Great idea to try the warm tea. Different people have said they need their liquid to be ice cold, hot, warm even some room temp. You have to find what works for you.

Sending you the best wishes for the best weekend.

My poych has angry days. I just try to be sure to get in everything when I can. Don't fight your pouch or it will win every time

I'm almost six months out and I cannot tolerate eggs at all. My nutritionist and dietician advise that eggs are rough on post RNY patients. Have you tolerated them well (post op) before this? I agree with other posts(ers) too ~ some days are just "bad pouch days". Hope you get over this hump soon!

I am 17 days out and Water doesn't agree with me either so I put crystal light in it and for whatever reason it sits a lot better. This was a suggestion from my NUT so I hope it u can try it and it works. Also makes me feel normal, sipping on something lemonade flavored.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
