Well Surgery Didn't Happen Today.

Recommended Posts

Well I am back home. The surgeon didn't feel comfortable doing the surgery today because my blood sugar was high. I know he is being cautious and a good doctor but I sure am disappointed. It is rescheduled for Dec.5 and I am supposed to somehow get my blood sugars down. So another round of reg diet then two weeks pre op diet and a lot more insulin. Trying to tell myself things happen for a reason and God is in control. At least I got a valium out of the deal and and IV in and out . And a mega dose of tylenol IV. even had my legs pumped for a while. We will just call this a practice run

So sorry! Doctors know what's best even though you were mentally ready to go. It will happen and we are here too to help. Hugs!

It was 275 today and my ai c last wednesday was 9 so it was a combination of both. I told them I hadn't taken any insulin since monday because of being on Clear Liquids yesterday, but he just felt like healing or having a leak could be a big problem with the numbers that high for a while. SO I have a month to get them under better control. Which is sooo sooo hard. My sugar can go up on Air.

thank you everybody, I am doing ok. I am thinking about having a few last meals this time. I had been being so good for so long, really since May and lost 24 pounds, But I just might have to have a couple of favorites I didn't think I would get for a long long time. I won't go crazy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
