I have read on this forum about some taking Gas X after Surgery for the gas pains. My question is how do you get the gel tabs down,do you cut them or crush or what?

Thanks for the replies in advance

My Dr told me I can take my pills without cutting some of the smaller ones. Also in one of our support groups we discussed medications and we were told the gel tabs can be okay since they melt. Also if you are taking the gas-x for the pain in your shoulders from the gas they put in during surgery it will not help. Per my Dr there is nothing you can take for the pain or to relieve it. other than walking and a heating pad. I just had my surgery 1/31 and felt the shoulder pain immediately after surgery.

Good Luck.

Also Gas X also comes in a chewable. And anyone reading this that hasnt had surgery yet (me) needs to remember.....one of the girls here said she told the anesthesiologist (misspelled i know) to push as much gas out before they were done with her. So maybe we need to do that. I have had shoulder pain from the gas after a surgery and it is no fun!

I had surgery on 1/26 and the gas x strips did nothing to relieve the pain or gas. I'm still having shoulder pain at times, but just moving around walking helps. At this point I'm healing up nicely and am able to do very gentle stretches that help get the gas moving. Best of luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
