Almost Done Waiting...

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am new to the site. My doctor and the psychologist that did my evaluation strongly suggested i join some sort of support group. So...here i am. I've been reading a lot of posts and everyone seems to be positive and supportive of one another. About me, I am 31 years old, 5'1" and weigh 270. I have struggled with my weight my whole life and like many people, i've tried just about every diet out there. When i first contacted the surgeon's office the office manager was very helpful but realistic with me. The insurance i have DOES cover WLS but it is difficult to get approved. With her help i jumped through all the hoops and got approved. My surgery is this Monday, November 5th! I am so excited i can barely stand it. I am a 3rd grade teacher so i am on my feet and active all day. By the time i get home i am sore and exhausted. I can't wait to feel better and have energy. I am encouraged by the success i see on here...can't wait to shop for clothes and not have to go to a special store. :-)

First off Congradulations, after being delayed one time because or my A1C I was able to have my surgery on the 30 of October. Up to that day people kept asking me if I was nervous. My outside was like no while at the same time they would say well I know such ans such had it done and they gained their weight back. My insides wanted to rip there heads off. Oh course I was nervous but I kept saying why am I doing this..I would go through all the reason why I should go through it. Got in my pre-op room joked around with the nurses next thing I know I was going in the OR room getting on the table and saying goodnight ....remind yourself off all the good that is coming out of the. Plus look at all the new friends you will make on here. Who will support you!!! Good Luck Monday!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
