Has Anyone Had Problems Sleeping 2 Weeks Post-Op?

Recommended Posts

Hello family,

I haven't slept in 2 days and I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with sleeping or insomnia since surgery. I am a little over 2 weeks out and this is my second day of this. I am soooo exhausted and my head is killing me. I have to go back to work Wed and there is no way I can do that if I keep having these sleepless nights. Any advice?

That IS a side effect of going off of some meds - when my husband went off of vicoden (a few years back) he was up for days (it felt like forever) - so it’s totally possible that’s what’s going on.

I’ve taken vicoden and codine with ZERO issues - so you might be sensitive like my husband.

good luck!

I hope not that would suck. I only took the meds in the hosptial and only once at night for like 2 days when I got home. Since then I didn't take any till last night. I need to figure this out though cause I am soooo exhausted and feel like crap. Thank you for the advice though. :D

Are you taking reglan or compazine ? They made it to where I couldn't sleep but was exhausted. Which can be a side effect of the meds.

I have had the same problem after surgery and coming of pain Med's

Do you use a C-PAC when you sleep if so you may need to have your machine adjusted or you may not need it any more.

But sounds like your body is trying to adjust to what you just went though.

Call your doctor and tell he/her maybe they can help

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
