My Dr. wants a 2 week liquid diet and even though I wouldn't have to start it until 11/15 I am currently considering starting a modified version in the next day or so.... 2 shakes a day and lean Protein for one meal. Once I start his diet it will be liquid for all meals... I'm just worried that I might burn myself out on shakes if I'm not careful... any thoughts?

I did the same thing and by the end of my two week mandatory I was so burnt out and really missed foods. But it is good practice for after.

Maybe replace Breakfast and lunch with a shake for now if you are really gung-ho and eat normally the rest of the day. Even this would help!

Good luck!

I should add I've already been doing shakes for breakfast since August... I quit smoking for the first time ever after 15 years the day I had my initial appointment with my surgeon in September and I think I'm ready for my next challenge ;-) I think I will give it a try.... at least for 2 meals a day... here's hoping I don't hate myself for it in the long run!

you won't hate yourself, You are just going to be really prepared and nothing bad about that, I don't have any "last meal' desires, so I have been eating a pretty low carb, high Protein diet all summer. ANd the past week and a half the pre op diet. I could eat a meal of meat and non starch veggies, but I haven't just eat some tuna or refried Beans. It is like I want my old stomach to be super ready for the new stomach. So no not crazy at all.

I totally get it. You are ready for new way of living and excited to get started. It is a long time to do it though. I have to admit I tried but didn't do that great until I got over that last meal syndrome thing. I am on my one week Pre op and it is tough so do what is best for you and good luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
