My Date 10/30/2012

Recommended Posts

I had the lapriscopic gastric bypass surgery on October 30th 2012. I am 22 year old female from Minnesota. When I went in for surgery I weighted in at 288 pounds. Size 18 jeans and triple x shirt. I have high blood pressure and I'm borderline diabetic. I have to small children who I owe you everything to. They are my reason for having this surgery. Two days out of surgery and I can say I'm feeling pretty good. I'm still pretty sore. Just kinda curious as to what I should be eating so close to after surgery.

At this point, probably liquids only. Did your dr give you instructions?

Amtlmt: Welcome and congrats. There are a few posts on the pre and post op boards about liquid diets but they really vary surgeon to surgeon. I agree with BabyGirl and I would call your Dr. Mine is the 19th and I am so glad to hear you are doing well two days out. :)

Thanks for all the information. My doctor said I can eat pureed foods and such. I'm having a really hard time getting in Protein (protein shakes literally make me sick). So I have been eating eggs, cottage cheese, and yogurt. Along with muscle milk Protein Drinks. Having a hard time trying ti figure out if I'm hungry or not.

Stating: 288

Am you are doing so well. Take it slow, remember to sip, walk and rest. Stay hydrated. And try adding some Protein Powder to your yogurt that might taste better for you, I am pre op so take my advice as such. But if you try some yogurt with the Protein powder and some dry sugar free fat free pudding mix, you might love it. try mixing vanilla yogurt with vanilla pudding and vanilla protein powder for instance.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
